Brake- On Childrens Newsround
Discussion
An article in BBC1 Newsround, this afternoon featured a woman from Brake asking children to name the most dangerous road where they live.
They were talking about speeding cars of course, and trying to corrupt young children in getting traffic to slow down.
They should educate the parents not to park both sides of the road where schools are, as that is where accidents are most likely to happen.

Greatest laugh was that they had the spokesperson on Look North(Yorkshire) and she's lives in student land in Leeds. No idea about school's in the area she lives in when put on the spot by Harry Gration about roads she'd report! Utterly clueless. Whats the point BRAKE. If your own spokesperson can't be ars@d!
I'm getting a little *issed off with hearing the tripe spouted by these self appointed so called "experts" of road safety.
A pedestrian died recently under the wheels of a fire engine, despite the fact that it had flashing lights and sirens! Que........... Darwin!
Locally, a young girl died recently when she ran under a bus as it was no more than 30 feet from a T junction with a halt sign (speeding? - I don't think so). They had to lift the bus off her. Who's fault again?
Same place, 10 pm at night, I turned into the same road (from the main road), flowers still in place on lampost from recent death. 3 children in dark clothing ran out into the road to my right running along side, with a car approaching from the other direction. Myself and the other driver PREVENTED another death.
In my youth I've walked for miles, every day 2 miles to school and 2 miles back. I've cycled even more miles as a child over 150 miles per day. AND! I never got run over!!!
Could it have something to do with responsibilty and observation perhaps? But there again, I was taught by MY parents NOT to play in the road, IT'S DANGEROUS!!!
Who's responsibility is it again? to teach your kids road safety?
Over to you Brake!.....................

Was trying to find out about an accident near Wakefield last night, and stumbled across some school road safety site.
They pointed out that road deaths for children was higher on average for the area, and something had to be done.
I was worrying that it would be the usual ban all cars.
But no, this school was teaching good road practice to children, how to be cautious around roads and treat them with respect.
Wow, how amazing. There is still hope for safer roads!
However, I bet the BBC and news wouldn't show this initiative as it's too much like common sense, and has no wow factor.

...and couldn't show the evil capitalist car and its selfish driver in a bad light.
it never ceases to amaze me though, how 'motorists' ( as in 'the beleagured (sp? ) motorist' from my sunday paper ) are referred to as though they are some remote group of odd-balls, when in fact it's probably half the blinkin' population!
and all of us only want to get where we need to be at a particular time of day - grr!
rant over.
