Allow me to set the scene a little.

We live in a narrow cul-de-sac. Rows of terraced houses on both sides with room down the middle for a
single car to drive in or out. Generally a nice street, with nice people who are courteous to each other.

Now a couple of weeks ago a young couple move in to a house across the road. Loads of lads with hoods up, shouting all hours etc. To be expected I think as his mates are helping him move in. Not so.

I'll get to the point. This lad has now accrued 4 vans, transit types, all clearly not road worthy, no tax, flat tyres etc. One doesn't even have an engine. Looks like a right tip. One of them is a tipper full of junk.

We have found out that he is related to the local junkie round the corner. Police are often there involving breaches of the peace etc

They aren't the types that you can approach and have a civil conversation with, more like the gyppo type.

So... what can I do about these vans. I appreciate he can park whatever he wants outside his house but this is taking the mick. An eyesore, possibly dangerous, not to mention they are parked end to end meaning people are now fighting for spaces. We have 2 babies and sometimes have to unload round the corner and carry them round.

I appreciate some will find this most amusing but believe me when it happens on your street its no joke.

What can I do? Please avoid responses involving fighting, fire, or 10 man brawls. I've already thought of those!

I doubt the vans are insured or taxed so maybe the police could make them move them as they're still on public roads not a private driveway.

Just trying to help you think out of the box
Being realistic can you afford not to? It's a pity, looks nice place in your profile
It'll take 6 months to move

I'd start with this - also the problem may well go away in 6+1 month or 12+1 month (depending on tenancy) as they are unlikely to be steadfast payers. Stick it out...

2 are untaxed. Already checked. Reported with dvla and reported as abandoned vehicles with the council. Not much has happened since.

Just keep chasing them. Even report them to the police as being used on the road and we're dangerous driving. They'd never know it was you

2/2 unhelpful posts Saaby.

GS, am assuming you have had a convo with community police officer assigned to your area? If not, maybe worth finding out who they are.

Not sure there is a helpful answer, what can a CPO or anyone do that wouldn't make things worse? He's sort of said that at the end of his opening post

Make a point of getting on with them and not complaining to them etc . Dont complain to other neighbours about them.

Dont become a 'suspect" when things "happen"

When did you report them to the Council and DVLA? Don't keep reporting them as it will take a while for them to get to them, but they will. How did they get there? Must of been driven surely?

This may not help you. I've seen a few clamped cars in my town over the last year - it looks like that's how the council deals with untaxed cars. If they have no intention of moving the vans anytime soon, it's going to inconvenience everybody else to have them made immobile not the owners.

The Transits aren't the real issue and I'd suspect if you did manage to get them moved others would turn up instead. You need to get rid of the neighbours instead.

I assume they're renting so you need to deal with it as an antisocial behaviour issue & with whoever their landlord is.

The really honest answer is that any straight and legal approach is going to be slow and troublesome and the scrotes will be several steps ahead as they're not bothered.
