So yet another year of great bike racing to be entertained with this week.

However a question is there a car record attempt too? Or was last year so fast it proved the point ones and for all?

Me and Mrs Genx took the car over there in 2004 and on one of the non racing days decided to do a leisurely lap. It remains my personal best at just over six hours... we did stop for lunch though!

If Mr Higgins can top last year he's a flippin' legend

Is there an official attempt for 2017 planned? Heard nothing of it anywhere but assume it is.

His lap last year was bloody special.

I think the McLaren 720S would be a great choice

Balls frown

Any reason or have Suburu been pulled from sponsoring the event?

They are still running VIP laps between races in a fleet of standard road cars, the roads open and course inspection cars are all Subaru and they are parked up at the back of the grandstand when not in use for people to look at.

I doubt the cost and logistics stacked up and it was a massive ball ache for the organisers trying to fit the laps in to the point last years proper timed lap never even happened due to weather

Only 3 car records exist

827i vitesse 100mph
Suburu 117mph
Suburu 2016 128.7mph

McLaren 720S surely has a fighting chance at demolishing last years time.

So asking if there is a car timed run this year is
Drunk
idiot
or drunken idiot.

fk me didn't realise the fact a car did so well on the course would frustrate so many bikers hmm

You're clearly trolling for a keyboard warrior style argument with a biker (as happens every year), but to put it into context for you, the car lap record is just over 5 mph slower than the bike, so over a 6 lap race lasting an hour and a half the bike would win by 7.5 miles, or nearly half a lap.

No I'm not simply asked if and when the timed run was apparently it's not on this year.

I really enjoyed the video of Mark Higgins lap and would love to see another attempt, but in road legal machines only. A 720s would be quick, but would it be too low over some of the bumpy stretches?

I would be more interested in a lap in something more down to earth.

An obviously, there is no point comparing a bike lap to a car lap, so all that nonsense can be left behind.

Ignoring that the Subaru lap is from a field of one car and did a total of what, 3-5 laps with next to no setup/testing, I think that's bloody impressive. 720s beats the bikes. Sorry.

Agreed, leave all the bike vs. car nonsense alone. 2 separate machines doing 2 separate times. They can be likened to each other but hardly compared.

rofl You mean the car built specifically for a lap record with no rule restrictions whatsoever was only about 5.3mph slower than a bike that has to meet a multitude of rules?

So in the mind of Mr. Vivid-Imagination, what would pitching another completely unregulated car against a competition bike actually prove? No disrespect to Mark Higgins at all, his lap was nothing short of incredible and I'd love to see him come back and do it again.

Looking at the Higgins lap it was mighty.

However when you watched the speedo he was in the 130-170mph range for very significant amounts of time. I recall one corner a left hander not far from the start and he was taking it with ease at 100mph!! nuts.

On the long straights he was maxed out for long periods so has he a higher top speed he would have gained - to what extents who knows.

Does anyone have the standing 0-100mph of this car? Interested as a comparator v the 720S
Also it's 0-170mph time - as the 720S is shocking quick over that speed range
