2-seat Spitfire proving popular at Sywell

I reckon I see it (NH341) flying around on at least two sorties per day. The price for a passenger flight starts at 2500 quid for 20 minutes, so that's at least 5 grand per day towards paying-off the huge restoration bill! Good on 'em. Nice to see/hear it in regular use.

I suspect that after fuel bill and putting something aside towards the next engine rebuild they'll have a lot less than £5000 left.

For 40 minutes say £1500 fuel, a couple of hundred in the engine fund. Then another £1000 or so towards general maintenance and a few hundred towards insurance.

We have a regular Spit visitor over Port Solent / Pompey area most fine days. The first Few times I ever heard it I ran outside to have a look. Now I hear it sometimes 5+ times a day, it must be something like this pleasure flight caper.

Still a lovely evocative sound and I still try to get a squint at it most times if I am outside.

When we had our flights from Biggin they did 5 that day!

You lucky bugger! - is it worth the cash (£2500ish?)

Having a Spit fly over your house a few times a day is a lovely thing in its own right though, when they're taking off in the right direction the go down one side of the house and turn left all the way across the back of my garden. Even my 4 year old can tell it just by the noise now!

My office isn't too far from Biggin Hill and very often see it buzzing around.

One of my colleagues is into aviation and always stares out the window longing for a flight.

Well worth the cash IMHO. You get to take control for a while and a couple of victory rolls were the icing on the cake!!

It crash landed this afternoon.

Under carriage collapsed as it wasn't locked properly. No serious damage & pilot/passenger walked away unharmed.

Work takes me to Sywell every 6 months or so (sweaty flights in a Navjo) next back in September, hope the Blades are practicing while I eat ice cream. NH341 is certainly popular although incongruous at the 'petrol station'. Other half has given me a "go book a flight in a Spitfire" voucher, just cant decide where to do it.
