It is likely that I will be getting married in Spain. I will therefore need to pay suppliers from the UK.

What is the most cost effective way? Usual Bank transfer or a different method?

Thanks

If you're looking at it from the point of view of being cost effective, maybe marriage isn't right for you... hehe

I use transferwise for paying for holiday villas etc.

I'm having a mess about with Revolut at the moment, and it seems to be pretty effective (FX @ spot and no hidden fees).

As above - transferwise - easy and cost effective.

There's also a Halifax credit card that has good Euro rates apparently. A friend who flits back and forth to Spain all the time uses it to pay for everything then clears the balance on her return.

Yep, Transferwise - you set up an account with them, and set up a new recipient with their details in your online bank account, then send money from your UK account to their UK account (Barclays I think), then they send to overseas recipient. Sometimes you even get a small payment back if the FX rates change during the transaction period.

You can also use a debit/credit card to pay, a bit quicker.

Great recommendation of transferwise - you guys just saved me loads :-)

Have previously used my bank which have reduced their fees to zero recently but of course make their money on a poor exchange rate and the receiving account was also being charged a fee and the transfer (to Thailand) was taking around four days.

Used transferwise to transfer quite a chunk which has arrived within one or two days and saved around £700! Great app and service!

On a related point which i'm not sure if you have looked into(apologies if you have it sorted). Is you or your partner a spanish national? As ive just got married in spain to a girl from there and its pretty much impossible to get married in spain as two foreigners. We would of struggled massively hadnt it been for her family knowing some people who could help. Most people get married in the UK and then have a celebration in Spain from my research.
