Not wishing marital strife on anyone, but it does sound like that course of action might at least be addressing the cause, not just the symptoms.

A good friend of mine is in the force. He said the majority of his time is spent sorting out disputes with FB or other social media. She said this He said that about me etc. He tells them to just come off social media but they refuse. He polices a large council estate in Birmingham so unsure if this is area specific but I cant see why the police would waste time finger printing a letter with no direct threats to life? Also would it not be CID who takeover this?

Direct the PCSO over to the thread on police resources being stretched. I cant see them DNA testing for that. Perhaps if it escalates and the letter writer threatens to blow up the local Asda then the DNA team might get involved, otherwise forget it.

The letters are the least of the problems really. Given her behaviour and attitude, I'd be concerned about the welfare of her children to be honest; if she isn't around to parent, it's quite easy for young children to hurt themselves badly or be at risk of physical or sexual abuse by strangers. It sounds like social services should visit again and investigate properly. You can inform them anonymously without telling your wife.

I think we are fast approaching the point where people need to pay a fee for calling out the police which is then refunded only if their call out is considered valid by any normal standards.

TV night after night shows "can't pay we'll take it away" and other similar fodder where, on almost every visit, the police are called by one party or another. Utter waste of police time unless the creditor is then billed for police time (as, in effect, that cost has been incurred by the taxpayer in the course of a bloke trying to get back money from a private arrangement).

My garage was broken into last night. Power tools and petrol strimmer etc taken. Call to 101. Got crime number. No suggestion that police were interested in coming round. But they come round if someone is abusing me on social media or if I'm kicking off because I owe some money and I don't like the fact that some blokes sent by the court now want to collect it ?

The world is mental and getting worse by the day.....
