Have received an underpaid postal charge card for £2, which appears to be no postage was put on the letter as per new RM rules from 2015.
It's held at the Sorting Office in town, which is too much of an effort to get to.
I'm not going to bother to pay it and more than happy for it to be returned to sender.
Anyone else have some stories re unpaid postage?

Got one the other week from a removals firm - a flyer in an envelope without postage on it.

Drove across town to collect it and you have to pay the postage before you can see the item.....

I phoned them up and complained - they said they would send a cheque out to cover the cost but of course they didn’t....

I was tempted to post them a turd in a box without any postage on it but ran out of enthusiasm..... maybe next time

My Mum got one a couple of years ago where the send had forgotten to put a stamp/frank on it.
I'm sure some will call "Custard" but it's completely true. The letter was from an Alzheimer's charity. You couldn't make it up. my Mum didn't actually see the funny side to it.

Yes, I know it is a terrible disease and have great sympathy for anyone with it or looking after someone with it but it did make me chuckle.

Our daughter starts formal nursery in January and there are a lot of people on the waiting list for a place - letters and packs were sent to parents a couole of weeks ago advising of a taster afternoon and socialisation for the children and parents of the facility

The school however sent it all out in a4 envelopes but without large letter stamps - I went to the collection centre, paid and got ours but they had a huge stack of them

I rang the school to confirm we are attending, they thanked us and advised us we are only 1 of 2 sets to respond out of 55 packs sent out - I didn’t tell them the reason is their postage and that most people are too apathetic to go and retrieve items for fear of wasting their £1-2 ... I however would rather just get the item, pay the pittance and in this case will likely reap the rewards of it lol

I had to pay for a birthday card my brother sent me.

He'd picked up the wrong envelope in the shops, so he bent the card double and stuffed it in the unsealed envelope. This made it thicker than the small letter limit which meant I had to collect and pay for it.

Bellend.

When me and my chums were younger and more immature our trips to Le Mans used to feature some French gentlemans periodicals, when we got back one year it seemed to be a good idea to post a copy of 'Soixante Plus' to one of the gang, unfortunately an insufficient stamp was used, his wife was unhappy to be charged by the postie to receive the envelope and somewhat less than amused when she opened it.

I've had one of those, you don't have to go in person, the card I got through the door said I could attach £2 worth of stamps (or maybe it was £3) and put it back in the post, which I duly did, and a couple of days later the original letter duly turned up through my door.

If you put the card in the post without the postage would Royal Mail have to charge themselves £2?

I had one for £1.55, I paid it online by Debit Card and it was delivered 48 hours later, it was a large Christmas card from a nephew, with a regular
second class stamp attached, it's his birthday on the 28th, should I, shouldn't I, no, he's not a bad kid just too dumb to know about stamps.

Got charged 2 pounds to get a card which had been sent from Denmark with a code generated online rather than stamps and it attracted the no postage charge in the UK.

The letter we got a week later with the same sort of code wasn't an issue.

Post Nord (Danish postal service) say it's Royal Mail error. Not bothered enough to go back to the sorting office to try and reclaim the money though.

I had to pay for the Christmas card off my mother last year. The envelope had a shiny finish - it had largely come undone - and you could see where she'd put a stamp on but it fallen off.

Had a couple since and just ignored them.

20+ years ago I was working as a postman and was given an unpaid postage item to deliver addressed to a sub post office. I still remember the sub post mistress being shirty about it. It was either a case of me paying for it, her paying for it, or it being returned, I wasn’t paying for it but she wanted it and equally didn’t want to pay. Very strange and looking back possibly a bigger racket going on I didn’t recognise at the time.

Ah the days when we used to pay ourselves for the surcharged item then keep the money off the customer .

There were a few times as a postman I paid the surcharge and let the customer have the underpayed item Foc just because it was too much hassle. Never got invited in for the fabled favour though....

Best I had was a supplier of mine take me on a ski trip last year, thank you very much, which was enjoyed by all.

Got home to an under paid envelope/collect from post office notice. For it to be sales marketing from the same company! Bloody cheap skates!!! Lol

There was an MP a few years back who sent out (or more likely his secretary) a huge amount of Christmas cards (without the correct postage) to constituents he had come into contact with in previous years. A great way to lose some votes!

The OH once ordered something from the states. HR Customs' brain cells must have been having the day off as they charged duty on it, even though its value, which was clearly displayed on the parcel, fell below the threshold. The post office, therefore, retained it due to duty being payable plus a handling charge for being involved with the process. After paying charges which were almost as much as the value of the package, and which were never due in the first place, we were finally allowed to take possession of it.
