Split Roof - on/off
Discussion
Morning all split-roof owners,
I now have a split roof and so far it's gone well. Nice clean cut, straight down the middle, just got to finish the edges now.
I haven't fitted it to the car yet but a thought occurs. I read somewhere about the possibility of one panel falling into the car during fitting or removal and damaging the interior. Very annoying! I intend to fix an aluminium lip to the underside of one half to 'catch' the half when fitting.
Anyone else found this to be a problem? Simple solution is for the passenger to support both halves briefly before final fit-up. But without a passenger...?

HI
As a pioneer of the split roof campaign (some years ago now) I can confirm that falling in was a very real problem, until you get into the habit of leaving the passenger side window wound up when fitting the first half in. Never had it drop once since
I have an "H" section joining the two halves and never had the drivers side fall in as long as its supported as above
Never leaked either
Hope that helps

How do they fall in? Mine have never fallen in and I chopped my roof in half 8 years ago, I can see how having a window up would help.
I hook them on the screen first, then pull them together with two TVR S ‘Adjustable Roof Latches’ and finally lift the rear of the panels up together while pulling up the rear hood section.
Luckily the ‘Adjustable Drawer Latches’ are still available from rs-online.com (RS Components)
RS Stock No. 245-5547 - Mfr. Part No. E8-10-502-20-RS - Brand. Southco
Acetal, Fibreglass Reinforced Nylon Black Toggle Latch, 350lbf Op.Tension, 95 x 37 x 17mm

My solution may not suit everyone as I have to handle the middle seals with great care but they are proving ok and haven't leaked in 8 years.

Those black latches look the business.
I don't have a split roof, but do track days, and have lost the targa panel at 115 mph at Snetterton.
I heard a whoosh, the panel went into orbit, and the guy behind pitted for a change of underwear.
I think they look really neat, so will get ordering.

I agree. Fitted mine yesterday for the first time and as said, if you hook each part in properly at the front, they stay in place until the rear section is engaged.
Perfect solution with the catches too Steve. Thanks for posting. Mine will be on order as soon as I've finished typing this. Plus the neoprene seal. Ebay?
