Hi All,

I had an awful and worrying experience happen in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, as two covered men approached my vehicle on the driveway (cctv footage). One attempted to open my front house, which was locked, he then approached my car 981 cayman (2015) and found it to be open. He entered inside the vehicle and riffled through the glove box. Once he had finished he appears to take a photograph with his phone of either the dashboard or the VIN number within the drivers side door jam. It is important to state that the thieves appear to be opportunists and it does not appear to be a planned entry.

Nothing was in the glove box so that does not worry me. Porsche have told me that a key cannot be issued without producing paperwork, so in theory I shouldn't be too concerned about the photo of the VIN/chassis details?

What worries me most is that I am fastidious when it comes to locking my car. I even optioned folding wingmirrors to help identify when the car is locked.
I have footage from the previous evening arriving back home and me locking the car, with the wing mirrors folding in. I did not return to the vehicle at any point after this. Even if I had accidently opened the vehicle from inside the house, the door would not have been physically opened and therefore the door would have 're-locked' itself (I tested this and it does).

So I have a situation where I believed the vehicle to be locked, although I did not physically check once the mirrors had folded inwards. I have since checked and previously checked numerous times and its always been locked. Other than potential interference from Wifi devices I am a total loss and have lost a bit of faith in the Porsche locking and alarm system.

So in conclusion, has this happened to anyone else or can anyone shine any light on a similar situation? I have taken to now installing a disclock on the steering wheel but the whole situation has left me feeling rather uneasy.

I assume you don't have Entry & Drive from the steps you've taken. I believe that's what rbh is suggesting.

Hope you get to the bottom of it.

If you have Entry and Drive the guy at your front door could have been boosting the signal from your key to the car. Can you see on CCTV if the indicators flash before the thieves approach the car door?

I have a 981 (without Entry and Drive) and it lives outside too, so is exposed to wind/rain etc, but it's never unlocked itself in the 3 1/2 years I've owned it.

My car does not have the keyless entry.
They do not have any device in the footage to relay anything.
It appears to be as much of a surprise to them as it does to me, that the door is open!
I have owned the vehicle for 4 years now and not had a 'known' issue with the locking or unlocking of the car. I can honestly say that I do not physically check the door handle though after each locking, I bet many do not. Either way the situation is worrying an I am slowly trying to eradicate the possibility that it could have been caused by one of my many wifi devices at home (smart sockets, Philips hue system etc)

Are your wing mirrors up in the footage? If so, then the car was locked at some point after you got home.

Did you go back to the car to get something (without putting the key in the ignition) and forgot to re-lock it? That's one way the mirrors can be up and the car unlocked.

EDIT: Sorry, I've re-read your post and you say you did not return to the car. In that case, I'd ask your OPC to give it the once over just for peace of mind.
