One of my contacts has just informed me that the company Sell your car with us based in Buntingford has just gone into administration.

The Workshop, Stonebury Farm, Hare Street, Buntingford SG9 0EH
Hours:
Open ⋅ Closes 6PM

Phone: 01763 259598

Their website is down as are their autotrader adverts.

My contact's car is on site with them and no-one is answering the phone and staff laid off so he is heading there now to try and collect it.

Worryingly many cars are still in their possession so hopefully this can be resolved as soon as possible. Owners have not been informed of the circumstances.

I will update as and when I have more information.

The posts on trustpilot here are quite damning... Lots of people out of pocket it seems.

Is this a sale or return process? I assume if it was like other places that buy cars you'd have the money before they put it on their site?

I once tried to sell a car to a small "sell you car with us" type outlet. Cheque bounced, I collected car immediately, garage was gone a few days later.

Go there and demand the keys if you don't have any money for it yet.

A letter to all our creditors
This is a letter of apology from Sell Your Car With Us. I know there are a lot of rumours going around about that we are a bunch of deliberate scammers and selling peoples cars and not paying them on purpose, that is not true. The problems started when we were hacked twice out of a large amount of money. We then had two vehicles stolen and the insurance did not pay out, we had a vehicle written off and again through a clause in the policy the insurance company wriggled out of it and we have recently lost a court case for a substantial amount of money. All this has wiped us out of cash flow. We found an investor to come in with an investment of £400,000 for 40% of the business, unfortunately, at the last minute he pulled out and we have run out of time. This has forced us into liquidation. We have sold off as much of our own stock as possible to raise as much cash as possible. The problem is we have run out of money and time.
The liquidators froze the bank accounts on Tuesday and removed the remains of our stock. There is some equity in the stock and some cash in the bank that has been taken by the liquidators, so there will be some money back. The liquidators are Begbies Traynor telephone number 01702 467255 who should be your first line of contact.
Again, this was not our intention, the company grew rapidly to having over 350 cars for sale, in hindsight this grew too large to quick.
Please be aware that none of the staff members in any department were aware of the situation at all until the liquidation company took over.
Sincerely The Management At Sell Your Car With Us.

When they say 'our own stock', are they referring to vehicles they own as a company or the cars of people that have consigned through them??

Beaten to it above.

My friend is speaking to the liquidators now, looking at the other reviews it looks like they have sold peoples cars and not transferred the money

Looks like they were auto-issued for not filing confirmation statements.

I really don't know how (relatively) small companies get 'hacked' out of large sums of money. Hacked implies electronic funds, which would surely be in a bank account - if those were being hacked, then I'd be having strong words with my bank.

Unlikely they had 'substantial' funds in e-wallets surely?

Just checked my friends MOT history/insurance status.

Mot'd 9 days ago. Which would suggest that it has been sold. The money most certainly hasn't been transferred to the owner.

Indeed. Sadly not the first time this has happened, I think.

I'd be amazed if action isn't taken against the directors... Clearly continuing to trade fraudulently and potentially insolvently, selling cars with no means or intention of paying the owners.

You would hope so, but i guess once the money is 'gone' its gone.

My friend has got somewhere with the DVLA, car is still in his name, so car has been registered as stolen so the poor buyer is going to be out of pocket now.

That's good for your friend.

Not so good for the buyer.

Although does insurance not cover a situation like this? Effectively the car has been parked on a premises and stolen.

Probably not covered by insurance, can and keys gone. Not theft, either, more complicated than that.

Has the potential to get exceedingly messy.

If you have a look into the people involved in this company you will find that they have been 'unlucky' enough to have this situation happy to them before...a couple of times. rolleyes

Sell your car with us conveniently bought the assets of a previously failed company which belonged to the husband of the current secretary of SYCWU.

What an amazing coincidence!
