Woke up this morning to find the rear wiper arm ripped from my car parked on my driveway overnight.

Assume drunk moron or moron kids, or drunk kids being as its half term.

Its a Golf MK7 - will this be expensive to fix?

If the stub from the motor isn’t damaged and they’ve just ripped it off at the hinge, then you could have a knock off copy from eBay for abou £10-£15. Probably just a 13mm nut underneath the cap or something like that. They can be a bit stiff to get off, especially if you no longer have the arm to swing about for some leverage. Put a bit of anti-seize on the threads when you replace.

Is the motor still sticking through the glass or has that snapped as well? if thats snapped find somebody breaking a MK7 its an easy swap.

If its not snapped/damaged just get a new arm and fit.

They're on a splined shaft and it's a tight fit, once you undo the bolt it can still be tricky to pull the arm off, lots of wiggling required. If really stiff, think theres a tool you can get specifically for it, or small bearing puller maybe? Make sure you put the new one on in the same orientation the old one came off, i.e. If it's horizontal to the right put it back on the same.

would this be a case of be careful as the glass can go (really I have no idea as, touch wood, it's not happened to me before)?

I would get a wiper puller which pushes against the motor shaft and pushes the arm up. Many wiper arms are now really hard if not impossible to remove without one and a wiper puller is seriously cheap and usually under £10.

agree with what has been said about the wiper puller. They're about £3 on ebay and imo not worth risking damaging the glass using other methods.

You could also potentially consider just blanking it off, like shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiUICXx_g3w

Either way though the video should help you.

As an aside, is it pointing towards your fuel filler cap or away from it?

A above, get a wiper puller. Or you may have to hack-saw it off as I did on my Mk5, it was corroded solid. hehe

A 13mm or 14mm open ended spanner under the arm/spline with a little leverage removes them easily.
