Dissappointed by Petrol leak

Got the car back from a reknown Porsche specialist (who shall remain nameless on here to save Ted).
Aweful smell of petrol in the car. Thought and was hoping it would go away with time. Went to get the car MOTd at my friends Bosch Main agent, and he said he could not let the car go out like this! Such a good bloke he let me use his ramps and tools and I tracked the leak down the fuel filter union not being fastened up properly ( had to take the intercoolers,airboxs and the undertrays off- at least I didn't have to undo the exhaust system!)
It was nice to get the porker on the ramps- and realise that when all is said and done it IS a machine and CAN be worked on. It was nice to see the engineering from above (on the ramps).
However I'm appalled at the apparent lack of professionalism of this place. I've been to Porsche main dealers before and have found under trays cracked and broken (that weren't before) and cable ties left off. One didn't even know that the car used a high pressure Pentosin system for the clutch and brakes! May be the car is too old for them.
I have the factory manuals and am confident I could carry out most of the procedures myself to a MUCH higher level of workmanship- the only problem is the stamp in the book and the peceived drop in residual value. My Bosch main dealer thinks I'm crazy staying with dealers/specialists. For almost £900 odd quid you would expect better. Problem is that they will no doubt not take any responsibility and say it wasn't them. It's downright dangerous if nothing else!

I have had problems with just about every specialist I have used. My view is that we are all human and all make mistakes. What is important is how they react to being informed that they have made a mistake and how they put it right.
EG JZ Machtech came and picked my car up and redelivered it after a small mistake (2 X 3 hour round trip!)

It might be helpful, but when I first got mine, the guy who sold it gave me a shiny new fuel filter to be used on the next service.
I never put my car into the garage, specialist or not, unless it's a job I don't have the capacity to deal with.
Anyhow I'd done all of the valve clearances, and cleaned up the distributor, put the new fuel filter in, didn't think any more of it.
Came to start up time, and I couldn't believe the smell of fuel. Looked into the engine compartment and realised that the connection to the fuel filter was leaking despite it being nipped up.
I quickly shut down, and let the fuel evaporate. Having taken the filter off, and compared it with the old one, I realised that the replacement was a non Porsche part. The overall appearance was identical, the threads on the connections were the same, but on closer inspection the taper in the fuel connections were different.

I guess I could have forced it, but I figured it'd be better just to get the right part.
It could be worth checking out.

I now use the newly opened garage next door to my unit called Bourne Performance. My mate (garage manager for umpteen years) opened it a couple of months ago. I thought I'd give him some porker experience so got him to change the plugs and filter on my 993TT.
The expertise was very impressive. I thought I was thorough but he immediately picked up a couple of bits that I, Parr and Porsche tonbridge had over looked too!
Cut a long story short, plugs (barstool of a job) and fuel filter change came to less than £150 plus parts!
Can't believe the difference in performance the plugs made; makes me wonder if Porsche even replaced them during it's last service.
I know one thing, i'll be using BP for all servicing from now on as I'm a passionate believer in it's not who's done it but what's been done. BP: 01795 437111

Rich it's not that old, it's a 1700s place, they're not sure of the exact date but reckon about the late 1700s (the deeds don't go back that far but some of the signatures are crosses because the people signing them were illiterate!).
There aren't pubs or shops near by but it's not a problem for me. I don't have kids and don't go out regularly up here.
