Anyone have bother with their Virgin Media broadband cutting out?

I've had it since I got the place over 7 years ago and it was faultless until the past couple of years where it likes to cut out a lot. Can come in spells so I forget about it when it behaves but today I think it's cut out over half a dozen times.

This happened to me a few years ago.

Rung them to complain and said I was going to leave. Put me on a better deal with faster broadband and a new modem.

This fixed the problem and to this day never had any issues with connection or speed.

Good luck getting through on the phone, I've been trying to cancel my contract and have been on the line for nearly and hour, tried 3 times at different times, still can't get through.

Have you checked the connections outside? See if there are any joints that are bad.

1st step is always to reboot the router, you'd be surprised how many faults that fixes.

We had problems for months with Virgin. Wi fi and Netflix problems.
After a War with them, over 4 hours on the phone to different people over 4 days, they sent us a V6 Box.
They did, however, manage to send 3 brand new but old spec. TiVo boxes first, over the space of a week!
They dont want them back apparently, now in the Loft for when they do !
Set up the V6 box and never looked back.
Absolutely Brilliant thing.

They gave me a new router (Hub 3.0) last time I phoned to get my monthly cost down.

If anything it's been more unreliable since then. I often have to unplug it.

Are you using the SuperHub 3.0 in modem only mode or as a router? There is a known issue (Intel caused) with these that can cause them to have latency spikes which could appear as flaky connections: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2018/08/inte...

If you use in Modem mode (which is how I use mine) it's generally fine

Router, the computer is upstairs and the hub is downstairs.

Set this tracker up last night to monitor-

Any basic recommendations that would do a good job?

If that'll solve the issue then it's a winner.

Haven't really played multilayer games in recent years otherwise I suspect I wouldn't have coped.

Have you got a router from any previous broadband suppliers?

There is the old virgin one this replaced, but that's it.

Not sure that can be used as a pure router. It's really a combined cable modem/router. I personally use Ubiquiti Unifi kit but this is not the simplest or cheapest. A UDM would do what you want though...

TP -Link work quite well

Personally I use a Draytek Wired Router and have a Netgear as an access point

Your biggest problem is that most places that sell them will be closed.

Is the PC hard wired or on WiFi? This could be a Wifi issue rather than a Virgin supply issue.

WiFi but the TV is directly connected to the SuperHub and the same thing happens.

The hub's lights go all to pot when this happens.

I got one of those three weeks ago and its connects to a Virgin Modem in bridge mode (v3? It's white).

Anyway, the UDM is incredible!!!! Bit pricey, though. I got it from a place in Germany.

Only thing I haven't been able to work out is how to block a specific site through it. So I'm going to point it at a pi-hole's DNS.

Worryingly, it tells me that my Phillips Hue Hub is using gigs of data... Should probably do something about that.

Anything cheap that will do the job? And by cheap, I mean nowhere near 3 digits.

You didn't mention TV in your OP. So all the advice you have been given on getting a better router is pointless. There is a problem with the service, a cable fault or a problem with the hub.

Have you checked the connections outside?

When the hub lights “go all to pot” does the cable TV still work?
