Hi, I purchased a Seat Leon 2 days ago, when I went to buy it I took a mechanic with me to look over the car and he also drove it back home for me, he said the car is spot on and very very well maintained.
However, after going shopping in it today and parking it on my drive I noticed that the drivers side front wheel was slightly turned to the right where as the passenger side was bang on straight. Bearing in mind the steering wheel is slightly turned right as I moved it so the steering wheel lock engages, but before I did that the steering will was perfectly straight.
I rang the mechanic up who went with me and he said the cars spot on and that he said the steering is perfect and so is the tracking/wheel allingment and that there’s nothing to worry about and that this car must just be like that...

But I’m confused?! I’ve owned 7 cars previous to this one and have never seen such a thing, why does the drivers front wheel look slightly turned to the right when the passanger is straight? Is this something to worry about or is my mechanic correct and it’s just the way it is. All opinions are really appreciated. Thanks.

You could take the mechanics word and keep your eye on it for wear or take it in for tracking or a couple of swings of a sledge hammer.smile

Not wishing to question anyone's abilities on this forum but there is a specialist wheels forum who would possibly have a better answer: https://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/forum/index.php?...

It covers wheel alignment, steering geometry etc

Thanks for the replies! It’s probably just something silly but I have a 10 month old son so I just want to make sure the car I drive is 100% safe.

I think I get this, but do you really think you can see something you can't feel when you drive it?

By the time the geometry was far enough wrong to be apparent to the naked eye, the symptoms would be very obvious to the driver. I think it's more likely you're grossly overestimating your ability to judge the wheel geometry and there's nothing whatsoever wrong with the car.

Got two pieces of straight wood (or preferably metal) and a tape measure of two?

As long as the bodywork is straight

If it looks out it will be out

You mention that you've never seen it on another car hence know what you're looking at

Do all the body panels fit properly with all the gaps between panels even?
If not, have the frame checked for crash damage.

Bit of uneveness in the ground or weight being to one side can make the wheel look a little out compared to the other side
