New PH page one look and feel

Ted, I noticed the starting page has changed a bit . . .

I'll give it some time but an annoying thing now is the banner just above the 'features' and the Macca SLR review. On my Mac - and maybe that's it - it just covers it (Explorer) by a few mm's. But enough to crop the pic.

In the news-column I would switch pic-text the other way round. The news pics are almost glued to the feature pic now . . .

The ad-banner on the far right is a good choice.

The blue headings are like a body text. Bullits or slightly different blue (dark blue - light blue - dark bleu etc.) would be better . . . Or just a line of intro body text like the Macca piece.

The boxes on the right are OK.

Less is more . . . sorry to be a pain idn.

Looks like I need to buy some time on browsercam.com as I've not got a Mac. I've have tested it in IE, Firefox, Opera and Netscape.

Hi Ted,

I've checked your startpage with Linux:

Firefox does well how it seems, but Konqueror has problems with the top menu bar.

All looking good, but the CSS for the front page is messed up on my PC. Typically I run the font slightly larger than normal (ctrl + two 'clicks' of the wheel down). PH used to display fine like this, but now the menu bar overwrites itself...

Other PH pages don't change the font size when I fiddle with the wheel, and the front page used to be the same - not a complaint so much as an observation, really, but if you could fix it I'd be grateful!

I check out 'my stuff' a few times a day, browse through the fora in the evenings and check out the homepage at lunchtime . . .

Do you guys think it's irritating that I react on so much topics?

I'm aware of that (I do the same for much of the day) so I'll be doing a few things to bring more news to each forum.

A CNN type of info / headline banner could be placed on top of each forum. As long as it's not 'heavy'. I prefer quick loads . . .

My thought wasn't meant as a criticism - but that sounds like a really great idea

It'll probably just be a link to the news rather than anything too fancy. e.g. when in a TVR forum, there will be a link to TVR news etc.

- Road Tests
- PH Shop

. . . should be the same in height and wiidth. Same goes for the pics. Make a square divided in 4 parts.

It's a bit strange that the ad-text on the rightside of the PH-logo is part of the ad-banner below the 'Updated: Thursday 16th June 12:27 CLASSIFIEDS | TV | MEMBERS | CALENDAR | LINKS | FORUMS | SHOP'-bar . . . It's a fun banner btw but the clickable parts have to be searched. I dunno if Mitsu pays for that . . .

Anyways, I still think the pics-text of the Headlines should be switched . . .

I like the new front page Ted. One small suggestion: the images next to the excerpts of new items could also be links to the articles themselves.

As for bringing news items into the fora, why not have them automatically posted as a new topic in relevant fora when they're initially posted to the main page? Or am I being dumb (again)?

Could I have a screen shot please? I've tested in all browsers and don't recognise what you're describing.
