Greenworks portable pressure washer
Discussion
I don't see a dedicated section for detailing/cleaning, so putting my review of the Greenworks GDC40 cordless pressure washer here.
Just received this machine and gave it a try today - very happy overall!
1) Compact and practical:
Living in a London flat, I don't have outdoor access to electricity and water. This is one of the few portable options available - the other that I know of is the Bosch Fontus, but it has less water capacity/pressure and does not come with a soap tank.
The hose is 6m long so you don't need to move it around to reach all corners of the car.
The unit itself looks big with the bucket, but it detaches. I leave the bucket next to my car and store the pressure unit in my flat - it's quite small.
Soap attachment
2) Battery life and water capacity
Original Greenworks batteries are very expensive. £150 for the biggest 6ah option - without a charger. I took a chance on this 5ah Chinese knockoff as feedback seemed good - only £80 with charger and dispatched from the UK. It's a 1.3kg monster but fits perfectly in the machine.
I finished after about 30 minutes on and off, and I still have juice left. If you buy the 2ah Greenworks battery for the same price, you get about 10 minutes.
Time will tell if it holds charge, but so far so good.
In regards to filling up the bucket, I used 1.5 / 30 litres. That included pre-wash, snow foaming, rinse and faffing around until I got the hang of it.
3) Performance
I have used a jet wash once, and thought the pressure was overkill.
Hence why I was not bothered about the moderate max pressure of 70 bar on this unit. No worries about damaging decals and sensors.
It feels plenty powerful and had no problem blasting off the dirt. I think they struck the right balance between power and practicality.
It's first time I snow foamed the car, so can't really comment on whether it did a good job. The soap tank is rather small (had to fill up twice to cover the car), but it foams ok I guess - not the creamy look I was hoping for but this could also be down to the soap (Dirtbusters). I believe you can attach a proper lance, but not sure if they require more than 70 bar. Perhaps someone can enlighten me on this.
Here it is in action
And the result after final wipe:happyanim:

Hi mate thanks for sharing. I was wondering how good the foam tool would be. I also just bought this one and arrived today. First impression looks good, easy to assemple and the 5min i could try before baterry run out seemed To have sufficient pressure. Looking forward to try over the weekend and see how it goes, most concerned with how long battery lasts.
I ordered mine from idealworld.tv for £199 plus £7 delivery the cheapest price i could find including 4ah battery and charger (branded). The charger is the basic low amp one so it takes 8h or so to charge fully.

Thanks for bringing that back to my attention. Just signed in and can see the last post I made was in 2012 after my first detailing job:

I thought another comment may be helpful in case somebody finds this review in future and is looking for a more adaptable snow foam lance to fit the Greenworks GDC40. I had some luck contacting Autobrite Direct. After sending over a couple of images of the lance, the guys at Autobrite kindly told me to go for the Nilfisk/Kew/Alto (Bayonet) adaptor. I made the leap of faith and used the lance for the first time today. It is 100% better at creating thinker foam then the snow foam adaptor that comes with the GDC40. It is still not as think a foam as I have seen on some videos on the web using plug in pressure washers, however considering the lower water pressure the GDC40 supplies, it was very acceptable. Therefore I would recommend the lance from Autobrite Direct to anybody who is looking for an upgrade as I was.
