Looking to buy a new compressor for my garage.
I intend to use it for spraying and also to run air tools such as Sanders etc.
Budget about £300.00

Machine mart do a couple, one just under budget, one a little over. Both seem the same apart from the larger tank at 100L.
I’m guessing the motor will be less pushed on the larger tank, so less noise being generated. Takes up more space though.

Any thoughts?

My 2p worth
If in doubt – belt drive as they are much quieter. Your neighbours will appreciate this if it’s used say 7-8 pm... Sound deadening is easy enough though…

Look at the duty cycle, if you are spraying/sanding it’s going to be on for a long time, compared to an impact wrench say.

Constant duty- compressor throughput (cfm) is more important than tank capacity. An impact wrench –it tends to be the other way round. Short bursts of a lot of air.

Look closely at all the hardware that has to come along with it, filter, regulator, drier, hoses etc.… and buy the largest diameter you can afford. With a smaller bore, much of the energy that you pay for at the plug for the compressed air is thrown away with friction losses literally down the line.

We did a test at work with 8 mm lines in comparison with 12 mm lines and we found the line shop pressure had fallen 20 psi in comparison by the time it got to the gun. Lines were quite long though – 20 m….

Get the biggest tank that you can. I was going to buy a cheap 25l one, and a mate told me it would be virtually useless even for the one job I wanted it for, so I went for a 50L version instead. Fast forward a bit, and all the Aldi cheap air tools, and I wish I'd gone for something much bigger. 100L is better, but get the best you can.

Ive just bought a hyundai compressor to replace an older twin piston compressor. Complete revelation, cant tell you. The new one is so quiet and performs brilliantly. Highly recommend it.

That looks interesting, it’s a bit down on capacity, but being ‘silent’ I expect it’s less intrusive if it’s running more than a 100litre one would.
What are you using it for?

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. Impressively quiet. Mine only does light duties though.
