991.2 Porsche Carrera - A Bog Basic Beauty!
Discussion
Well after a short love affair with a Jag F Type R Coupe
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=19...
I am here with a new motor!
Unfortunately, after I scratched the surface of the Jag (which was amazing) and dug a little deeper, I just found it was lacking. Not in performance, noise or looks but just in quality and the all-round package. I totally get it and I am glad I gave it a go, but it wasn’t a long-term proposition for me.
So, the new car and the highlights.
2017
991.2 Carrera Base (3.0TT)
Base specs too, apart from PSE and S wheels (Not even sports chrono!)
White exterior with Bordeaux interior
One former owner, FPSH, Warranty and with 32k miles on the clock.
The bottom line, its fantastic! The quality is so evident in lots of different little ways that it makes a big impact. The drive and handling are a world away from the Jag (much more than I expected). The power and noise is completely different, but I don’t feel like I am missing out even though the figures may suggest otherwise. The porker is just so much more efficient at making the most of what it has, that it bridges any performance gap (in my opinion).
My search was simple, I wanted a 911 but was open to spec, age, color, and options. If I was buying new, would I have gone for this spec? I am not sure……..however what I have learnt is what looks good on paper (or screen) is sometimes very different to reality and so I was open to giving anything a chance.
When I saw this, I knew it was the one. There was just something clean and crisp about it in white (my first white car incidentally) that just looked amazing…..and kind of more so in base spec! Before I viewed the car, I was hesitant about the interior but again thought I would check it out and give it the benefit of the doubt. Now just two days in, I couldn’t imagine this car with anything else. It’s a much darker red than what’s displayed in the pictures, and I love it. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea which I appreciate but if we were all the same it would be boring right!
For now it’s time to put what’s left of the Cup 2’s to good use and enjoy the car. A couple of my friends are talking me into a mild tune which will take it from 370 to circa 480 (which would be fun) but for now I am happy with it as it sits.

Cheers

Lovely car OP, I really like Bordeaux, but why oh why do Porsche insist on their “all or nothing” approach to alternative interior hues.
Rather than the carpets, the steering wheel/airbag/horn push and indeed the lower portion of the dashboard, the centre console, the door handles/pulls, sill trims etc being Bordeaux, just leave them in black pleeeeease.

That’s my thoughts as well, but that’s been the case with Porsche interiors for ages (the mint green of the 996 was, er bold).Rather than the carpets, the steering wheel/airbag/horn push and indeed the lower portion of the dashboard, the centre console, the door handles/pulls, sill trims etc being Bordeaux, just leave them in black pleeeeease.
These look really clean in a spec like this OP. White suits the car well.

lovely.I'm not a fan of recent 911s, they appear "porky". and white is a no-no for me.
But, that looks so well proportioned, clean lines and a wonderful simplicity. I think the open backdrop of the desert helps.
and the interior also works really well in contrast and in that environment too.
form and function working well in those pics.
Given the car is in Dubai it’s the perfect color combo. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d choose to own a Ferrari in these colours but I do and and somehow it looks amazing. I swapped the mats to black to tone it down a bit
Trying to sell a car with a black interior here is all but impossible.
There are options for black and red interiors on new 911 and they do look tasteful.

I agree, light exterior paint and red interior works well (my 3 Series is silver with a Coral red interior)
The difference is, in my car it's just the seats, the central armrest, the inserts in the doors and that's it, the end result is sufficient to lift what would otherwise be a pretty dark/oppressive interior without being OTT, whereas Porsche all too often give the impression they've bought a job lot of certain colour of leather and thus they have to cover pretty much any and every surface of the interior in the damn stuff

I think that's beautiful. There's just something classy about light coloured paint and a contrasting red interior for me.
I have a poundland version myself but I still think it's a beautiful thing.

Loving that. Would love to take a spin in a 996!I have a poundland version myself but I still think it's a beautiful thing.

Yeah they do.....very common out here too.

I've seen a handful of dual tone interiors and some work amazingly and some less so.
Whilst these pics were in low light, it does put a across a more realistic idea of what the tone of red is like.

Well I’m just over a week into ownership and what a car!
As I mentioned in my first post, it’s just the little details that make it so rewarding.
The handling is miles better than the Jag F Type R I had before. It corners so flat and it feels tiny and light on its feet. Traction is excellent but can be unsettled if provoked, however with cup 2’s and warm weather it’s pretty glued to the road.
Comfort wise I find the seats and general interior much better than the Jag too. It’s also refreshing to have a round steering wheel.
On the entertainment front, it’s also positive. I have purposely moved to an IPhone to make use of apple car play (god knows why they don’t support android auto). It’s another nice feature though.
Some more snaps.
Believe it or not it’s dirty in the first two photos….taking a prime position at a local hotel, but clean in the last.

I’m already considering some tweaks similar to this Litchfield tuned T
