Morning

I've been quoted £1900 for eleven lap fence panels with concrete posts and gravel boards.
The labour is £150 per man day for two people and estimated at 2-3 days.
This is in the West Midlands.

I was thinking more along £1200??

Doesn't sound too terrible, bit on the high side, but you did get 3 quotes in, right? smile

I had 3 posts snap recently, I had quotes from £200 to £600.

We installed a fence just before Christmas. 16 panels with concrete post for £2K. South East London.

It took 2 guys a day and half (finished by 11am)

Just last week we had the equivalent of 9, 6ft x 6ft panels (just under 60 ft.) replaced with close board (the fencing that is effectively constructed on site) fencing, concrete posts concreted in, wooden gravel boards, removal and disposal of both the existing fencing and also the original concrete posts from the original chain link fence, total cost was £1584.00 Inc VAT, Surrey area so probably toppy generally regarding cost.

Took 2 guys 6 hours to do all of the above.

Had 4 quotes, wasn't aiming for the cheapest just the best overall, funnily enough we ended up with the cheapest as they had the best reviews and a friend also rated them, highest quote was £1800.00.

We've had another online quote of £1670 for the work plus relatives had 8 closeboard panels installed in Brighton for around £1400 recently so I do think it's on the high side.

A few years back but we had 8 panels plus concrete gravel boards and concrete posts installed for about £1100 so I'd say you are in the right ballpark there.

I've just put through an order for about 11 meters of closeboard fencing. Materials alone were ~£900. This includes gravel boards, counter rails, capping rails and enough postcrete to bury 5 fence posts.

Wowsers, makes my 18 metres supplied and installed for just under £1600, look a bargain, plus they took out and away all the old fencing.

I've got a similar quote from a few years back - the increase in materials cost is quite staggering.

I'm basically with others . You might get a cheaper quote but I dont think you'll get down to £1200.

Sounds about right. I think we paid 170 a panel a few years ago.

I had....12 concrete slotted 8ft posts, 11 pressure treated close board 6ft panels, 11 concrete 6" gravel boards, 20 bags of postcrete, few other odds and sods and 2 men over 2 days - £1021.95 for materials, £667.50 labour, so circa £1700.

I could have got it done slightly cheaper, not enough to worry about the difference, but they had a job postponed while they were here quoting so went from quoting to accepting to same week installation. They did a fantastic job and all quotes received were around this mark so don't think you're too far off but could probably get it a bit cheaper.

Whereabouts in West mids?

I've used these guys a few times, sound job, reasonable price, always booked up. But and for me a big but, very reliable, when they give you a date they stick to it.

Avoid concrete posts. They’re crap. The panels will most probably flap in the breeze.

Everyone but me seems to like concrete posts where I live. And on a windy day all you hear is the clonking of the fence panels in the posts. frown

We have concrete posts on the other side and they do move about. It just seems less bother to swap a new panel in after they’re blown down. I usually insert a wedge in to stop them rattling.

Fencing contractor - Cambridgeshire…

Current times expect £130/150 per fitted panel. Two blokes should breeze it in a day if straightforward. Out of interest is it a fencing contractor, or property maintenance type chap?

It’s a property maintenance type person who’s done a bit of work for us before - including decking.
He’s usually quite reasonable (18 sqm of decking was £800 in June 2020) and the quality of his work is very good.
We’ve pushed it back until next year as the existing fence is still standing albeit not very straight.

These solve that problem and they stop the panels from bowing out of the slots in high winds.
