Me and family visited a friend at his flat and parked in a communal parking spot. The complex has a mixture of (numbered) spots allocated to apartments and a bunch of spots which are a free for all, where we parked.

We returned to a 1 series parked horizontally across the front of the drivers car then ended up spending an hour and a half on buses home. Neither of us were best park pleased.

Given this is on a private car park, what can be done of anything as far as 'the law' is concerned?

It's almost 20 miles back there so if I return to it still there then that car needs to move. How accessible is the towing eye on a 1 series? Could it easily be towed out of the way without damage? Or do I just pay 'a man' to drive the sole of his boot into the thing a good few times and leave the owner something proper to cry about?

Unless anybody has a better idea?

I believe the towing eyes are just behind little covers in the front and rear bumpers. Also, being a BMW, the handbrake will be awful at best so you will be able to easily drag it!

Take a picture and report it to the management company. They will take action.

Dog poo under the handles. You don't park the same place again when that's happened to you.

It's pretty brazen from the BMW driver. I wouldn't make my car stand out like that for fear of it being damaged, perhaps by local kids or such.

In theory this is the correct answer.

In practice: rofl

With a few strong bods I’d try and bounce it out the way. If it’s left right in the middle of the car park that’s an added bonus.

Depends who you have handy tho.

If it gets moved onto a public road then they could be towed.

Is there a parking management company notice anywhere op?

If it's anything like an E90 it's exactly as Triumph Man says. If the owner hasn't left it parked in gear you can probably just roll it out of the way.

The real issue here is that you want to move your car but cannot. Having had it put you out you want satisfaction in the owner of said car getting a ticket or similar but really you would have rather got home in your own car at the time.

When faced with similar situations, and extended door knocking yielding no results, I've simply let myself in (how you do this is up to you smile ), released the parking brake and pushed it out of the way. If it's an auto, there will be a procedure to get it out of Park as well that ranges from pressing a button to removing centre console trim to push a lever.

If it's daytime then you could call a local garage and ask if they can help with a towtruck to drag it or if they could bring dollies and a jack. Might be cheaper and quicker than buses!

In some cases the parker might be watching as they think it's funny to block you in, the appearance of a towtruck might get them to return.

If there’s a few of you, you can sometimes ‘bounce’ a car out the way, especially something light-ish like a 1-er

just sit with your hand on the horn until someone comes out and moves it

Another vote for bouncing it out of the way. It’s easier than you might think and will cause no damage.

Get a smoke alarm, set it off and then chuck it behind one of the aero trays or liners in the wheel arch. So it can’t easily come out.

Actually this doesn’t seem like an effective way to move the car…

Drag it by the suspension arms or wheels with straps, or jack + dollies

I’ve bounced a car that was blocking me in before, after leaning on the horn hoping they’d appear.

TBH, we were hoping the alarm would go off when we started bouncing it, bringing them running but it didn’t go off.

Surely the Police would deal with this, obstructing access to the Queens highway or some such thing?

I made contact via Facebook, and it turns out the owner is exactly as I expected; a grade A tosser. He isn't happy that I posted a photo of his whip and reg to the public domain and 'wont move it' because as it turns out it's 'his spot' despite there being no signage.

It is still there now, 16 hours later.

It is private property so I don't think police will be interested in moving it. The owner doesn't want to so I'll move it for them. It is getting bounced out of the way by 6 of us later on. Or something. That car is getting moved, tonight.

I've bounced cars with just 3 of us - you just need to get a rhythum going.

Or just get a 4x4 and drag the BMW to one side.

Do you have any friends in the area who can park in front of the 1 series and block him in? At the moment he can move when he wants, but if that option is taken away he may suddenly change his tune.
