06 Vantage Squeaking handbrake pad fix?

Had a search of historical forums and sounds like a common issue... but cant find any definitive "fix" advice, wonder if anyone knows the best remedy?

When up to temperature my car has developed a bit of an embarrassing rhythmic squeak which increases in frequency with wheel speed. Only on the drivers side rear wheel and once per wheel rotation. Presume rotor expansion and then the offending handbrake pad (not sure if inner or outer) rubbing on the outer slight lip on the rotor?

Applying the handbrake enough while moving stops it so definitely that.

Is it new discs and pads time (they have plenty of life left)? Or a simpler adjustment that can be made?

i would start be removing the pads and freeing everything off, a light coat of Ceratec and reassemble. if thats not it i would be surprised, abd your looking at something binding on the handbrake release

This used to be an issue on my previous 2006 V8 Vantage and I was told that a cure for it was to drive along a fast dual carriageway and while at a reasonable speed pull up the handbrake to deglaze the pads a little. Have to say it sorted the issue for a while but strangely it would appear again sometime later!

It was very annoying as it tended to occur when the car was hot after a long run and I was moving in slow traffic, not something you want is a squeaky Aston

Porterfield handbrake pads solved it for me. Got them from Redpants.lol

I used this solution too, just not on a fast road. I pulled it while slowly driving around in the garage. I also did it a couple times in reverse, to "clean" them during both rotations.

Thanks all for the above... will try the extended handbrake application back and forward later Sounds like its a build up of some sort rather than expansion at temperature then? I think looking at the service history that they are OEM handbrake pads (Pagid I think?) Will go for the porterfields next time for main pads too. Can't believe the amount of dust the Pagids produce over so little distance also

One other consideration is I believe that the handbrake calipers slide on pins, so if I'm right they are corroded or running dry then when you release the handbrake one pad may be being held against its disc.

This would be my take on it. I would not really encourage an extended handbrake application. The pads should withdraw from the disc face sufficiently if the caliper is releasing and the pads are not corroded on the pins or in the housing.

One other thing you might consider not for the hand brake squeal but to keep you alloys clean of brake dust is to use Armorall brake dust repellant after each wash. https://www.armorall.com/product/outlast-brake-dus...
