The summons would be sent to the driver. and you are correct that the summons has to be sent out within 6 months of the offence. Providing all the details are given correctly, Ie if you give false details and it takes 10 months to trace you you don't get away with it

I agree, you may be lucky, there are loads of reasons for a summons going AWOL, looks like yours could be one of them though. Let us know if you get it

Does anyone know the longest time it can take to receive a summons? I haven't heard for 9 weeks - is this unusual?

The legality is that the summons has to be served within 6 months from the offence. Around 1-3 months can be normal... Im almost sure this is the case someone pls correct me if im wrong... Edited by Marv on Monday 3rd September 19:14

Hi All, I got stopped for speeding on the M1 last year doing 115.4 mph. It was 12:30am, the road was completely clear and driving conditions were excellent. However, I was going way over the speed limit and it was a fair cop... (my beast did look good on the video footage they got of me!) Plod forgot to give me the bit of paper saying what I was stopped for, but they came around to my house and dropped it off (which I think means that they shouldn't have been able to summons me because they made a mistake at the scene...). Anyway, I didn't hear anything for 5 months and then suddenly got the lovely court summons. Ended up getting banned for 2 months and a £120 fine. I even got a letter from my director saying that I needed the car for work. That stopped me getting a 6 month ban! The worse thing is thinking that you've got away with it for 5 months!! Good luck! I didn't get given any piece of paper from the Police - does this mean I can't get summoned?

The bit of paper is usually a HO/RT/1 for doc production,if we are happy with your details/ ins we don.t need to give it out we could just write down your licence number and report you for the offence
