Alternative Parking Brake Pads for V8 Vantage?
Discussion
Yep, quite a few alternatives on ebay from £17, EBC etc. Worth checking yourself if they really need doing. Last time a main dealer recommended me rear pads and hand brake pads for £700 fitted I declined and said I would DIY. I do most easy jobs myself. I bought both 2 weeks later and got the wheels off only to find the rear pads about 1/2 worn and nothing wrong with the handbrake pads.
Im sure that there is some guideline that says if your brake pads are 60% and may need doing in next 12 months they recommend changing, and they seem to want to do the rear handbrake pads every time they do the rear pads regardless.....

Rear parking brake pads are easily available for under £20.00 and as they do virtually no work, almost any brand will suffice.
The big issue with these is getting the pad pins out as they very often seize solid in the alloy caliper and you may well need new pins if this is the case.
If the pins are very tight, I recommend removing the caliper from the vehicle so you can get a good firm whack on the pins whilst holding the caliper because access to hit them whilst still in the car is very restrictive. To get an idea of what you may be up against, see here......

Slightly leftfield but why do they need replacing? Parking brakes - unless you're doing handbrake turns - don't do any work so how can they wear out? Or is it an age thing rather than wear?
They are used by the traction control. Simpo Two said:

They seize on the pins sometimes causing them to bind slightly when releasing the handbrake and they age too with the backing plates of the pad corroding and in severe cases, forcing off the friction material.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
