What does this switch do?

2003 Daihatsu Move Kei car. It doesn't seem to do anything when operated, I thought it might be instrument panel brightness or headlamp up/down? Thanks.

I was educated never to push switches if I didn't know what they were for. Might be an emergency brake or J-turn button, could cause chaos.

Being a Jap import, maybe it controls the height of the small flthy toy hanging from the rear bumper, or controls the camber of the wheels between -10 degrees and -45 degrees

Really good suggestion, but it's not a turbo, I would've noticed whilst driving it. I just had a look under the bonnet to check and there's no turbo. Just 659cc of throbbing normally aspirated 3 cylinder.

The car is from Matsumoto near Nagano, so probably an engine warming switch for the cold weather

Any idea how that works? Where would it draw power from? As I said, nothing seems to happen when fiddled with?

I am not a mechanic and not very knowledgeable on this sort of thing. But my guess is it’s a way of adjusting the engine thermostat so that the heater matrix works better at lower engine temperatures. Typically older cars need the engine to warm up before the heater works well, this might help warm the heater before engine temperature switches the thermostat to direct heated coolant to the matrix

One would expect the previous owner of this car to be at least 78 years old, and he would probably want to warm the car up before he collects his mother to take her for a doctors check-up

It surely must be dash colour - as someone else suggested?

The only thing that makes me doubt that is the age of the car.

I Googled a bit and the latest ones change colour depending on how you’re driving.
