Hi all,

Odd one.... So i was on the M4 near Wokingham this afternoon. No variable speed limits on, i was on cruise control at spot on 70mph. As i passed a gantry i was flashed.
Now im assuming it was me as it was kinda quiet around me and the nearest cars were a fair way behind me.

So really odd. Anyone else had motorway cameras flash when limits being followed ?.

I wouldn't give it another thought unless and until a Notice of Intended Prosecution was to drop through the registered keeper's letterbox.

Was it when heading towards J10, from 8/9?
I use that road a few times a week, it flashes all the time!
It’s always going off when viewed from the other direction.
I do true 70 (Waze nav) & never had a problem.

If that was the gantry one or two before the Wokingham turnoff it did the same to me last weekend.

I had the speed limiter on, but was under 70 anyway - don’t worry about it.

Maybe it's like those theme park rides, where they take your picture as you go past and then ask if you want to buy it smile

Indeed, and it only costs £100 and 3 party points.

They often do this, I believe camera calibration. You won't hear anything

Being flashed and no ticket in the olden days used to mean the camera film was used up, though older digital cameras had a limited memory and also filled up with images.

I guess this is no longer a possible reason !?

There are a couple that are broken. J10 has another, I think. I got flashed to, wife confirmed I was under the limit. The car has a horrible central dashboard with a big digital readout that’s somewhat ambitious in its reading anyway.

I wonder if we can sue "them" for undue stress waiting the 2 weeks for a ticket that never shows? Daily mail sad face, I suffer with stress and anxiety etc…

Having done a few trips up the M4 this weekend, I noticed a couple of over-zealous cameras around the Reading area too. I had my cruise control set at 71 (which is almost cock-on to GPS speed!) and was elephant racing on an empty motorway with someone doing assumedly 72-73mph because of how slow the overtake was. Flash flash.

Same coming the other way. Cruise set to 72, I was wary of the cameras so I had a GPS app set up and it registered 71.4mph, I didn't get pinged but noticed at least two flashes for cars that didn't have a particularly large speed differential.

Of course, there was one idiot in a Mondeo that was doing about 197mph that got flashed and I had no sympathy.

I also can't be the only one to notice that travelling from Wales/Bristol to London, the lane discipline is generally pretty good out-of-hours, on the 3-lane parts of the motorway. As soon as that fking smart motorway comes in, brains switch off and everybody's sat behind each other in L3 (on a 4-lane motorway).

I usually sit in lane 1 @ a steady 70
Pop out occasionally to pass a slower vehicle.
Seems to be the fastest!

i'm just shocked how many speed cameras are on the M4 now. can't remember all of these prior to the "smart motorway" work.

I am led to believe that the camreas will now take a picture of people using the Red X lanes.

However this came from an AA patrol friend who was probably in the Reading area on the M4 so it could be the over zealous camera flashing

Yes Red X lane enforcement can now be done by camera
