Advice from the knowledgable please, my 993 had to be recovered home a few days ago, was overtaking a line of traffic on a 3 lane road, thought I’d hit the Rev limiter and realised the engine had stopped, it now won’t restart but after cranking and with the ignition on I’m getting this noise from around the fuel tank, I’m assuming knackered fuel pump?

My fuel pump made the same noise when my filter was blocked (new tank). It was working overtime to try and pump fuel. In the end it gave up.

This. Start simple. How old is your DME relay? Which version is it?

Thanks, I’ll check the filter

Bought a new one (money no object smile), just pulled the fuel pump fuse and the noise stops, so def the pump, just a bit unsure if something else is causing it to run badly.

....just from experience, new ones can also not work, as the solder joints dry out over time, and I doubt your new one was manufactured recently. Obviously your issue may well not be the DME.

My car originally had the 944 part number relay, which eventually failed, so I replaced it with the superseded 993 part, which failed much sooner.

If the car is a keeper, I would buy the modern solid-state relay, made by ftech9. I've had one of these in the car for about three years.
