I've looked at previous threads on buying a used 3200. Generally the advice is buy with a Maserati warranty. Cars from 2001 onwards now seem to be too old for authorised dealers to be interested in selling, although there's one or two about.

There's plenty for sale with general motor traders, but the advice is avoid them (understandable), presumably because of worthless/non existent warranties.

Rosso Corsa have a couple (too high mileage for me)with what I assume are Rosso Corsa warranties and consequently less comprehensive/desirable than a Maserati one?

Is your current advice to buy one of the few for sale privately with warranty remaining? Then pay to extend the warranty, I've seen posts quoting £1000 - £3500 for a year. If a car for sale privately has no warranty can a Maserati one be obtained, presumably after paying for a main dealer pre-purchase inspection.

Or do I buy a non-warranted private car, have Bill McGrath PPI it for £150 and put the £1000 - £3500 aside for repairs and hope the enigine doesn't let go.
After all most of you seem to have had pretty reliable cars.

Thanks

mine was a goodun, I know where it muight turn up if you're interested.

main dealers were telling me they wouldnt give warranties but with a good checkover & a decent aftermkt warranty you should be ok. C

learly if you can get one from a main dealer then you're better off but you will be paying for that. I'd make sure it has a good service before you buy it & keep the £3500 you mentioned aside for a rainy day.

Best of luck, if you buy well they are really great cars.

I would read some of the experiences on Ferrarichat about warranties from that dealer before making a decision.

Don't avoid non franchised dealers, but aim for specialists in itallian cars. Try to avoid an unloved example thats just been unloaded any old where.

IF you can buy privately with a good inspection (from an independent specialist - e.g. Bill McGrath,Talacrest, Verdi etc) and the car has a solid history then you shouldn't go too far wrong.

So get a warranty if you can it's peace of mind, but make sure you're sticking cash away for servicing too as the bills are substantial...
