Welding But Not Losing Radio Code
Discussion
Search 'welding antizap device'... little box of magic that clamps on to battery terminals like jump leads, allegedly stops voltage spikes.
I use one and have never had problems, but equally I don't know if I would have had without it! They're not expensive, so they're worth the punt in my mind.
Also supposed to also be used when jump-starting, for the same reasons.
Good advice I heard when welding is to keep the current path short, ie have the ground lead as close to the weld as possible.

Use a surge protector and leave the battery connected.

If the 12v sockets (cigarette lighter in old money) stays live with ignition off then there are devices which plug into cigarette socket to power the radio etc when battery removed.
Would that not also provide power to the ECU and other delicate electronic items that may be damaged by welding?Gassing Station | Home Mechanics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
