The video (from a hidden camera) shows a Samsung Repair Tech visiting a guy's house.

A technician has been called out to investigate an issue with a guy's tv

He suggests the guy go and reset the circuit breaker (a ruse to make him leave the room)

He has a quick glance around, then takes out a knife / box cutter and slices the TV screen a to void the warranty.

The original story was on Reddit, but the post has now been removed. Luckily the cat is out of the bag and the video is now in YouTube.

Somehow I doubt this is a one off or specific to Samsung.

What would be the point in this? Can't be arsed with the repair?

When I got LG warranty repair, it was a local company who collected, fixed and returned the TV on LG's behalf. Assumed this would be the case everywhere, subbed out to 3rd parties. Doesn't make sense for a repair guy to sabotage something he's not liable for...

Probably, Louis Rossman (A YouTuber that rants about right to repair) speculated that the technician probably wanted to knock off the the day and didn't want to have to wait for a part or do the repair.

Whatever the reason I hope the gets loses his job.

Samsung have form for this - it's why they make you sign a disclaimer when you put a in-warrenty tablet in for repair, so they can invent an you-blame excuse and refuse to return the item unless you pay their "diagnostic fee"

Interesting to hear more about this as I'm just about to put daughters in warranty tablet in for repair as it won't charge. Suspect charging port/ battery issue.

Get in about the charging port with a plastic toothpick or similar, it's probably full of very compressed fluff that's built up over time and stopping the charge cable engaging fully - I've had to do it a few times on USB C phones, and I keep mine in the same pocket on its own with charge port facing up religiously, you'll have to go at it for a bit before it starts to break up, just make sure to get it all out.

Pretty much as I said - tablet stops taking a charge, by all accounts common/easy fix fault to do with power connector, give to Samsung who make you sign said disclaimer making you liable for the diagnostic fee if you've caused the fault, surprise suprise they call me to tell me I've removed some screws so warranty is void. I told them if the screws are removed it's how they supplied it as it was bought direct, why the f would i remove screws on an in warranty device. They came back and informed me it was "subjected to water stroke physical damage" case closed. If I want it back I pay. By all accounts they have real form for doing this - you know Samsung is pretty much owned by one of s.koreas big criminal syndicate/familys right?

I expect my tablet was back for sale as "manufacturer. refurbished" or maybe even "new" within days...

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to update it with my findings. It's being collected by DPD tomorrow so we will see what happens. Any ideas on timescale / turnaround times?

Also have you got anymore info on what the fix is for when the tablet doesn't take charge?

It was prob about 4 years ago so dunno how relevent this all is but a power connector inside falling off is what I understood to be a common complaint. Turnaround was a couple of days as I recall but then if you're only calling to talk lies....
