Toilet flush handle with metal fittings
Discussion
Am I looking for something that doesn’t exist as I can’t find one.
We have heavy handed kids in our house and I’ve already replaced the handle 5 times as the plastic fitting that holds the square bar in place keeps failing.
Is there a kit out there that anyone has seen that comes with metal fittings instead of cheap plastic that’ll last a couple of months at best?

Hahaha but it’s got plastic fittings. I don't believe such a handle (with metal, thread locking nut) exists as the plastic ones are designed to stop over tightening and are effectively sacrificial, as you have found out.
Why not spend an hour converting the cistern to button flush and you won't have to worry about this issue again?

Didn’t realise that was an option TBH. It would certainly stop them breaking the damn thing again. I’ll have a look into that thanks. Why not spend an hour converting the cistern to button flush and you won't have to worry about this issue again?

No, the surround that the bar rotates within and the locking nut that tightens around it to hold it in place. cookie1600 said:

Job jobbed. Thanks for that suggestion as I didn’t even realise that was an option. Why not spend an hour converting the cistern to button flush and you won't have to worry about this issue again?
Very straightforward except that the kit I got didn’t include a replacement donut for between the cistern and the pan. Nipped down to the local hardware shop and picked up a universal donut.
Took about 90 mins in total as I had a 20 mile drive. Time will tell whether or not the kids will break the button next but so far so good.

Need to do this on mine, anyone got a link to the kit for changing to a push button flush?

I may be in a minority of 1 but both our push-button cisterns were total pains in the arse. Lots of continual flush problems, small dribbles through the valve into the bowl, resulting in the cistern suddenly starting to fill to compensate.
