I've done a search on the forum for this but couldn't find anything, apologies if I've missed a glaringly similar thread smile

We've sold our finally managed to sell our house in Hampshire and actually found somewhere else to move to. New place is 200 miles away (North Cornwall). We will drive two cars down on the day but I have couple of extra cars that will need transportation (both run/move but have been off the road for a while).

I don't want the additional stress/hassle to trying to get them transported on move day (at the same time as directing the removal chaps and herding two cats nuts ). Ideally want them out the garage / off the drive a few days earlier (also makes sorting the garage out easier).

I'm thinking maybe try to find some local storage place that would be prepared to take them for a very short period (say 4 weeks to give me a couple of weeks either side for the actual move day - give me a chance to sort the garage stuff both ends then) and have them transported down (long distance) beforehand and then transported to the house (short distance) a couple of week later.

Anyone here with any experience of doing this sort of thing, suggestions on storage and transportation?
I've had a few quotes off Shiply to get a ballpark costing for the transportation, but not sure I'd actually book someone off there. Obviously will need a company with two flatbeds or a multi-car transporter.

Cheers

Worth asking the new home current owner if you could move 2 cars there a couple of days before handover? 3 of you drive down and leave 2 cars and come back in 1. Could make a decent day out with a couple of friends or family and cost next to nothing plus be a bit more secure than a random transport company (a lot of who are cowboys) or a carpark/storage for a few days.

local transport company to you, or to where you are going, with a storage yard. they will collect and drop off later.

Try asking your home removals company that will be doing the rest of the moving?
Im sure they must have moved somroneveith cars before.

Or a local garage might be willing to use thrir flat bed abd store the car and deliver it fir a bit of a fee.

Contact Dean at Saving salvage https://www.instagram.com/saving_salvage/ he can collect, store and then deliver. I've used him for my GTR.

Our old neighbours, come moving day, had one of their cars simply loaded into the removal lorry - I was impressed.

Good friend of mine owns a large removals/relocations business and they frequently move cars as part of the house move. Some are interesting, others mundane enough to wonder why!

My brother has used anyvan.com a couple of times and been very happy with them.

Not sure they do the storage part though.

Have them collected, stored and delivered at a later date. Moving house is stressful enough.

When I moved from Hampshire to the north wales border i had a transport company take 3 cars 2 days before i moved, they stored them in their yard for a week and delivered them a few days after I moved in. The company was in Shropshire so not much use to you but by far the easiest way to shift the cars.

My removal company wouldn't even take jerry cans /other flammable liquids from my garage, let alone a car!

Guess it depends on their insurance cover. No big deal in any case (sadly I don't have any spare cars).

Thanks for all the replies guys beer

Driving them down isn't really an option, as mentioned both have been off the road for a while, one is old enough (1970s) to be mot/tax exempt but it is waiting for a minor resto/re-commision by me, it's on the button and I might drive it a few miles locally but certainly wouldn't want to risk driving it 200 miles down to Cornwall. The other is off the road for various reasons, starts and moves but tax/mot expired.

I must admit I hadn't considered asking the house removal companies. It's early days and I haven't engaged with any for quotes yet so I will certainly ask the question. Thanks to those that suggested it thumbup

I will check storage companies, however I would want the the older car stored inside so need to check that is an option with the Cornish ones.

Cheers.

When i moved I spoke about it to the removal company and they said it wouldn't be possible for them to move the cars, but they did have a mate who could do it, although he had no storage.

I'd be a bit worried about having my cars on their drive whilst their movers are packing up all their stuff

There's a place near me that does motorhome storage, including some indoor storage, very cheaply. Does anything like that exist near you, or where you're moving to? That could solve the storage element of the issue.

Moving is pretty stressful, so I'd be looking at (ideally) throwing money at a company who can deliver them a week later. Perhaps a local Cornish recovery company? A local garage will have some contacts.

If the cars can be stored outside it should be a trivial job for many companies.

I'm based in North Devon, not a million miles from your new house, plenty of room to keep two cars in a gated/CCTV'd drive/yard if you like, will cost you the pricely sum of one crate of beer for a few weeks storage?

It is worth having a word with low loader / haulage firms in your area, you may find they are going down to the area empty or can tie it with another load and save you some money.
