Hi

Hopeless workmate needs say 6 months accomodation, until their inheritance comes through & will buy, with their share. A long story, late 40s, always lived with their parents until they keeled over..
Lazy fker, never done a thing, I wouldn’t put them up.

A lot of competition for small rentals in SE.

I suggested a Travelodge type place to them. Seems to be around 1500 a month, no bills, heated, cleaned, cheaper than a dodgy rental with deposits/hoops to jump through!
(cheaper than rental when bills etc taken into account)

Drawback, no fixed abode if that matters?

Good plan ?

Could get an Alan Partridge ‘big plate’ for breakfast wink

Air BnB would be much better surely? 6 months in a hotel would be absolutely soul destroying.

I did a 2 month air bnb stint 8 or so years back with an ex while we were waiting on a property to complete. All worked out pretty well (the 2 month stay, not the relationship!) and it wasn't horribly expensive, though it was in the middle of Chippenham

Anybody running an airbnb would be extremely unwise to offer >28 days as it effectively creates an AST with tenancy rights, even less if resident is known to have no alternative fixed abode.

Some friends had about 4 months between houses.
Stayed with us a week, a couple of holidays, visited a few relatives at weekends, filled in the rest with airbnb.

I used to use spare room when finding lodgings for contracts away from home.

This.

I looked into short term accommodation for my daughter. This was the cheapest and probably best option.

Air BnB will be more expensive and problematic (from a legal point of view). Renting will be near impossible as there is too much demand and landlords can be picky. Renting a room gives you a cheap home environment with no utilities or legal issues.

My mate was in a similar position and he opted for a 'park home' on a holiday park estate. He got a long-stay deal with the company. It's a possibility for you if there is done thing similar in the area.

Not a bad idea, but I recall that there are time limits on many. 6 months is okay, but if it becomes 12... Lodging might be the easiest.

If he can afford Air BnB or Hotel for six months then can consider moving between places/areas for a little diversity/travel.

We looked at this as a full back option when we needed somewhere for 9 months (turned out to be more like 16!). Was very difficult to find a house to rent until we started lying about only wanting it short term.

Serviced apartment.

Or rental with 6 month break clause.

Most landlords are wise to the 6 month break clause. I won’t consider it now. If someone wants a 6 month let, no problem, but will be a lot more PCM than for a minimum 12 month commitment.

Probably not for your lazy atse mate but if I didn’t have commitments I’d be hiring a campervan and off for an adventure.

Depends if you need to be somewhere to work.
As you say, no commitments, go travel.

There are all sorts of options including taking a job or volunteering somewhere with accommodation provided anything from house sitting to the antartic survey.

the bigger problem is often safe storage of all your worldly belongings.

Looks like sorted now thanks.
A 6 month rental on what sounds like a granny annex! Incl all bills except council tax.
Paid 6k upfront, £1k a month.
To give breathing space, until the money lands & can buy.
