Interesting find today, I've owned this can of "Carlube 100+" for probably 3 years or so.

I noticed tonight that the top of the printed part of the can was peeling. Thought I'd see what was underneath....

I won't be buying their products in future.

So they search through the rubbish and fill old cans with Carlube 100+?

Good point, I guess it could just be a fill of a previously printed can...

Looks like Tetrosyl had a load of Wickes printed cans and needed to fulfil an order for their Carlube version. Sticker up the Wickes cans and ship it was the call?

Edited for spelling.

As a Tetrosyl customer in the trade, I would say this is the correct answer. Sloppy though, from both their Carlube and Wickes point of view.

I’d imagine whoever fills the cans for them had some obsolete stock and came up with a cunning plan to use up some old tins.

To be fair, I used to buy Supagrill charcoal and we’d stuff that in anyone’s bags (including own brand) and some of the price spreads were horrendous, Waitrose being the worst.

Because it's disingenuous. What did I actually buy?

Was it the product I originally intended to purchase, or something that costs 1/3 of what it claims to be?

You bought the product but it was in a can that was intended for something else, the something else never made it into the can. Rather than chuck the unused/overordered/cancelled order cans out the company sleeved them so they could still make use of the can and ship the product you wanted with the correct label.

If you had spent £40 on a can of Harrods extra virgin super rich blend penetrating oil and unsleeved it to find a can of WD40 inside that would have cost you £7 then Id have said you may have a point but this is not what happened.

Was about to say - a lot of screwfix no nonsense products rebadged premium brands (a lot of their sealants are just soudall products made for screwfix)

I remember working at Halfords and supposedly the own brand premium 4 year warranty batteries were made to the same standard on the same line as the 5 year Bosch ones (by Johnson controls)

Ignoring the Harrods super blend.... Neither you, nor I, know know what happened or what I received in said can.

I'm fully aware of companies reselling others products as their own and make a point of avoiding them. Carlube is simply added to that list, that's all.

I recall years ago at an oil canning plant,
ford oil in 5 litre cans being filled on the same line as several other brands including one with a green food dye added, at 4 times the price,

it all came out of the same bulk tank,

Was it grease or penetrating oil in the can? those are your options here.

No idea, just been out and sprayed some out the can.

It took less than a second for the fluid to slide down the Jacobs Cracker tub lid between the 2nd and 3rd images.

What do we think?

It doesn't matter if it's CarLube or Wickes. The container costs 78p. The contents cost 23p. You pay £8.99 (or whatever).

Why did you even bother to post?

Are you sure that's a Jacobs Cracker tub lid, and not Aldi?

Because this is a car forum, people buy products to use on their vehicles. This is highlighting that a product may potentially not be what it claims to be.

Or.... people could save some money by just buying the cheaper Wickes stuff, if they want to.

Why did you even bother to reply? laugh

Checked under the Jacobs sticker, no other brands visible and they definitely tasted like Jacobs crackers.

No, I'm not tasting the fluid out the can. tongue out
