Chimney breast removal

On our gable end, the chimney has already been removed to below the roof level.

We want to remove the chimney breast from the attic and floor below.

Does building control or structural engineer need to be involved?

Would a brickie need to build a new wall in the gap left?

I’d say not..
Doing mine soon, from the top down.
In my case, there will be no wall to replace as it were.
I would have thought that BC only interested if still supporting the stack above.

This may be nonsense though, will await the experts!

We are planning on removing our stack as part of an upcoming loft conversion so watching with interest. BC obviously part of our project but doubt they will care about it.

A simple Google serch will show that you do need BR signoff when removing a chimney stack.

the chimney will also be giving restraint to the wall so yes B Regs needed,
