Used to be 20p, now £1 - I guess that's inflation for you!

But it wasn't long ago that Sainsbury's was still free, and even they charge nowadays. Does anywhere in the UK still provide free air for tyres?

There's loads here in York. Just popped my head out the door and took a few deep breaths. Lovely.

I just bought a very nice (Michelin 4x4) tyre inflator and a joblot of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225588037338?itmmeta=01...

So I can have that clip on convenience smile

Not free air, but at least the gauge is consistent (And correct) - And given how much I've used it, I'm winning on the economics vs 50p a time at a petrol station.

To answer the question though, Not here in London! - One Esso near me requires that you buy a token from the kiosk to stop people raiding the tyre machine for the coinage... frown

there are some really good and fast tyre pumps on amazon, bought one for me and one for OH, she used it to get home at 1am on a rainy night rather than wait hours for recovery

mine inflates a tyre in under 2 mins, you can get them with batteries as well

ring for £15 with 28k 4.5 star rating

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-RAC610-Analogue-Comp...

and the 2 min ring i have for £38

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Automotive-RTC1000-D...

everyone should have at least the basic one IMO

I can't say I've ever seen anywhere that does it. I've just bought a portable one from eBay for £18 that has a battery in it, can be a power bank and promises to be fast. I've also got a permanently wired one that I keep in the boot for emergencies. That was free and it's quite good.

They're cheap enough that I wouldn't want to bother finding a petrol station every time I wanted to top up my tyres, or have to drive there on low/flat tyres. Handy if you're there, naff all use if you're in the other 99.9% of the country!

Sainsbury's did free air. Doesn't it do so any more?

They wouldn't give away real air for free, it'll be that fake stuff.

I want to see the video of them blowing up a car tyre to 34psi, will need more than a couple of deep breaths.

This is the answer.
It's been a revelation to have one of these battery powered high-powered air pumps - brilliant.
I bought my friend one for his Christmas, and he says the whole family loves it, and they're going to get another. So many airlines are broken or busy these days, that it was just such a ball ache to visit.

Yes. Are *all* Sainsbury's now charging for air?

Local garage air pump wasnt working so visited another. A quid for air that was so anemic, I only managed to get one tyre topped up before it ran out of time.

I've had a cheap 12v one for years and it's still going, not had to use it much myself but have helped a few people out with it.
