I’ve just been quoted approximately £2400 for a new front door, from a local independent company. It is a solider door with all the security that goes with it . Does this price sound about correct? Surrey Hampshire Area.

Top spec Solidor Christmas 2022 £1850 in Surrey through their own site.

So with a bit of inflation not too far off.

Completely OT but these are for security? Seen them occasionally in my sleepy but if Devon but not particularly common.

Maybe 'top spec' or maybe a supply only vs fitted price ?

Style, colour and ironmongery can have a big effect on the price. A composite door supplied and fitted will cost between £1500 to £2500.

Approx 12 years ago I bought a composite door online & a local craftsman fitted it. The door was supplied already in its frame.

I don't recall the total cost but it was considerably less than the quotes from supply & fit companies.

The local craftsman did a superb job. The composite door was replacing the old wooden front door in a 1856 house. The original door was fitted behind a raised front step with a glazed panel above. The craftsman extended the step, removed the top glazed panel & fitted the new door on top of the extended stop. The work took 2 days. He was still cheaper than I had been quoted for a direct replacement.

I moved 3 years later but regularly walk past the house & the door still looks perfect.

Had nothing but trouble with Solidor in our last house, so went for a different make in this house and its been faultless.

And so did I, My wooden door is no longer flush. There are two local composite door contractors and they are booked through to 2025, little in the way of a need for lower prices.

I had a composite door fitted recently. A Solidor one was quoted at circa £1600, mine came in at £1845 including the very awful tax and fitting. I also had one quoted at £2400ish.

Unhelpfully I can't remember the brand but I got the idea from another thread on the subject.

Obviously it'll depend on the size of the door, the style, glass and lock but you aren't being quoted anything wildly excessive by the sound of it.

They vary in price quite a bit depending on style/glazing/furniture. I can buy a black solid 6 panel for around £400+vat. Add trendy colours, fancy glass and a long bar handle and it can double. They are all pretty similar, just get a good cylinder and security handle.
£1500 fitted should cover most installs.

Bought one last year, not that far from you, £2000 fitted by Brackenwood Windows. The price will vary according to the fittings and finish. The fitter did a decent job and they were good to deal with.

That’s funny you mentioned them. I went to see them yesterday afternoon and they quoted me exactly the same as the other local company £2400.

Was quoted £2433 last week for a Solidor with two glass side panels.

Also had qoutes from other brands, Endurance, Palladio, Rockdoor, and Hurst - all in the £1900-2500 price brand. Two weeks later and I'm still waiting for Origin to quote.

We had something similar to the above (side panels were wider) which cost £3,800.

We had quotes from £2,800 )from the dodgiest salesman I have EVER met) up to £5k from somebody who admitted he really didn't like doing arches.

My brother had a standard door (no side panels, no arch) for £1,500 from the same people but that was about 7 years ago.

Ours (not that brand) cost £1028 supply only, as our builders fitted it while working. From https://www.grpcompositedoors.com/

We paid £1360 fitted for an Endurance stable composite door back in 2021. Went with Endurance as kept coming across too many bad reviews of Solidor. Up North.
