Is it wiped clean - or does it still show an endorsement?

Good question Steve and I am not 100% sure.

Under a Road Traffic Disqualification either discretionary or obligatory then there will be an endorsement which has to be recorded at DVLA and on the Licence.

Likewise under totting, the conviction leading to the totting procedure will kick in as an endorseable offence and therefore show on the Licence. It is law that for a disq less than 56 days Mags Clerk stamp the Licence and return to holder. Longer periods it goes to DVLA,

Only when time has made the endorsements unvalid to be counted plus one year for totting, longer for the more serious RTA offences, can application be made to restore to virginal.

The totting disqualification should remove the endorsements giving rise to the disqualification being
considered again in the future.

Unfortunately not. A relative of mine lost his licence through the 'totting up' process, had to declare it for the same length of time as you do points (3 years is it??).

Ah... OK... Get the totting bit - but if you go from 0 points to say 3 month ban in one jump - when the ban is over, what does your licence look like? Clean or endorsed for four years?

It has an endorsemne saying the offence and duration of ban - however so far as points go, on a scale of 1 to 12, you will have ZERO (so maybe a 7 day ban is preferable to 6 points!!!) So, the lesson seems to be, speed by at least 35 mph (so too fast for std points, but (possibly) not fast enough to earn a long ban.

Also, if you are stopped again for speeding, does the previous ban come into evidence, or do previous convictions remain secret until after judgement (like other trials)???

You mean in the same way that you are innocent until proven guilty and that you dont have to say anything when questioned? It seems that motoring law has it's own (lack of) justice.

You will always have to declare a ban to insurers (until it is "spent", whereas the points will evaporate eventually.

Licence will show an endorsement for that offence leading to the disqualification. But because of the disqualification it cannot be used on future occasions.
One would have to ask DVLC (not forgetting their fee) to have the endorsement removed.

Nevertheless when up at Court the Clerk will have a full DVLA record in front of him of previous sins and with some it takes a fine toothcomb to sort out what is what.
