1989 Porsche 928 GT with GTS bodykit
Discussion
Hi, When I first bought the car back in 2007, it needed a new clutch kit, so i took it the a Porsche Specialist who also told me that it needed new injector seals. So on his advice I had all that done.
Then in 2019 I started the car and within a few minutes there was a small bang (like a gas hob igniting), and smoke started coming from under the bonnet. Luckily I was parked at home and managed to put the fire out with only minimal damage caused.
Repairs were done by 928Spares a proper 928 Specialist, who told me that the seals fitted were substandard and that one of them had dripped onto the exhaust and caused the fire to start. It was very superficial, so whist there, (150 miles away), I took the opportunity to get some other works done to the car at my own cost. All the injector seals were also replaced with the correct ones, so all good there now.(All invoices are in the folder).
The fire damage itself was paid for by my insurance, albeit non-fault.
The insurance assessor had put a value of 25k on the car in its then condition, so the cost of repairs was nowhere near high enough to write off the car. So insurance status is normal as far as I can tell. At least it has been for me up until the present. Never had any trouble insuring the car. Also, the claim is now over 5 years old and has been automatically removed from insurance quote sites.
I trust I have answered what you wanted to know.
