No mate, new to Porsche ownership, after coveting them for so so long.My dad was dead set against 996's till he saw mine, he advised me not to buy a Porsche at all, but I went ahead anyway. It must be the no.1 supercar ever in my book, nothing to touch it really in all its different guises.
Londonporker, I think the long and the short of it is that we have been waffling on about a dealer in XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, so somewhat out of the way for your local/cheap servicing query.
Am sure that there must be loads of em around you though.

Try RGA in Vauxhall - 7793 1447. Not "cheap" in absolute terms but half the price of an OPC and really good and helpful. They looked after my 944 beautifully and have my slightly bent 993 for repair at the moment.

so what Daz is saying is - this is not a site for unbiased opinion, like it was originally intended for, if we have had a bad experience with a company be it service or sales, you cant post it here, only good comments are welcome.

We've had the rule in place for some years now and it works very effectively. People's bad experiences with certain garages are effectively communicated via email resulting in owners getting the information they want without allegations that PH can't substantiate being made in the public domain.
I will also remind everyone that all users of PH are here by my invitation. This is a privately owned website on which I invite you to participate (subject to agreeing with our rules).
Should I wish to exclude anyone in the interests of maintaining fair and decent discussions or because someone is breaching our rules (which are legally sound) then I am perfectly entitled to do so.
So please let's all calm down and enjoy the site like the other thousands of members do.

Well, there are a number of reasons. Firstly it's simply a matter of fairness. All too often I've heard a 'horror' story about a dealer only to later talk to the dealer involved and find that there are considerably different views on what actually took place.
There are bad customers out there as well as bad dealers. Some people expect too much, distort the facts in their favour, etc. etc.
Who am I to act as judge and jury when someone posts something bad about a business? I can't verify the 'facts' as presented. If the dealer doesn't even know that the message has been posted then it's very unfair on their business to be slated in public with no opportunity to respond.
Even if the dealer does frequent this site, is it right that a dispute should be argued out in public? That's no way to resolve matters sensibly.
PistonHeads then becomes involved as a 'publisher' of what may be libelous, making matters even more complex.
Disputes are best dealt with in the real world through normal channels. Doing it online merely opens a can of worms for the person posting the message, for PistonHeads and for the business being discussed.

That's as may be, but all too often emotions creeps into messages and people end up stepping over the line, putting themselves in a position where they could invite a whole heap of trouble.
So, the answer is that I ask people not to indulge in 'name and shame' discussions. It's the simplest solution I've found.

We DO appreciate opinions (good or bad) - but if you want to say something bad simply say "i haven't had good experiences with them - mail me for details".
If you name and shame, and the dealer finds out, and takes PH (and Ted) to court, and shuts down PH as a result, we all lose a very valuable resource...
