£500 - £1000 to spend
Discussion
on my Griffith as i was gonna get a private plate but really cant decide on one and weather it is really worth while.
My car looks as i want it so any other spend would be on performance/handling/Braking upgrades.
So you 'orrible lot what have you had done and was it worth it/would you recommend it.

It sure does - Noel Flannery at V8 Sports ordered an extra plipper with receiver & fitted it in about 30 mins. (Receiver sits behind the velcro panel that's at the side of the passenger seat)

does the remote boot opener work with the meta alarms?
jody
He also fitted the normal meta alarm plipper into the body of the key, with the new plipper attached on the keyring.

I ventured into private plates once, spending £800 to cover up a car that was older than I would have liked. Fine at the time but then a damn pain in the arse if you change cars frequently - more cash to Gordy every time, plus plently of hassle. Wouldn't bother again - save you money. The TVR badge outranks whatever letter is on the plate.
Well I bought D1GRF for my Griff (Dave/Griff, seemed sensible) but obviously it doesn't work on any other car, but what other car is there than a Griff
I was actually encouraged by my girlies mother, who at a ripe age (over 70) finally sold her V6 Essex S last year. She had the plate TVR218S, which, if you stick fixing bolts in the "1" becomes TVR2.8S". Perfect. Anyone seen that about? I think it went over to Yorkshire.
Cheers

I have just spend £800 plus VAT on a full set of adjustable Nitron dampers for my Griff 500.
They have transformed the cars handling.
Also, you can set them up for wet roads, say in the winter, dry roads say in the summer and track days.
At a recent TVR club event, we had one of the tvr factory racing drivers come along and give us a chat etc. When asked 'what should I spend £1k on' providing the car is mechanically sound, he said without hesitation rubber and dampers.
It is a well know fact that the griffs etc actually have too much power for the std damper setting. Therefore increasing the power output will only make this problem worst. No point in having the power and not being able tot use it!!!!
Speak to Steve Guglielmi or Paul Stevenson at Guglielmi Motorsport Ltd on 01327 878425. They did the work on mine and it was first class.

Personally, I'm more interested in how the car goes than how it looks, but other people have different priorities which is fine, of course. But I would suggest performance and safety improvements are always worth while. Easily the biggest performance and safety improvement is to upgrade the driver (i.e. get some training). Also has advantages that this transfers easily from car to car, plus it's great fun. I'm assuming here that you being faster and safer is important to you.
There are plenty of things you can do to improve the car's performance and handling, but a standard car is already so good that you have to be a very good driver indeed before the car is the limiting factor.
However, upgrades that you would do well to consider are a rollover cage, fire extinguisher, safety harness and a good seat. Again these make you faster and safer. (In particular, the seat and harness make it a lot easier to control the car on the limit.)
Once you've got everything else sorted and have really got to grips with the car, you will start to notice where the handling can be improved. It's always a compromise between cost, comfort and handling, but my money would go on the best dampers you can afford (Nitrons, or Ohlins if you're feeling rich), make sure all the bushes are in good condition, and get a full geometry setup.
Further down the list comes brake upgrades, although depending on how much time you spend on track and the spec of the brakes you might find you need to do this sooner if you run into overheating problems.
Engine upgrades come last. Or nearly last. I'll save that for purely cosmetic upgrades. Which IMO are pretty pointless (isn't it already the most beautiful car in the world?) but I can understand if you feel differently.
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
