Radio advert in the Strathclyde region by the Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership goes something like the following conversation ......
"40 children were killed by women who were over the limit ...."
"Over the limit? I can't believe a woman would be over the limit"
"Yes, over the speed limit in a built up area"

Ends with "Whether you are drinking or speeding, over the limit is over the limit!"

Sensationalist rubbish or what? Discussion ....

and 5,500 people were killed by Doctors and Nurses......

When do we get to see this headline and demand that Doctors and Nurses get banned?

They said they'd try to make speeding as unacceptable as drink driving.

There is some sense in what they're saying but it's a very blunt tool they're using to get their message across.

not in this country... and nor should it be..

if people want to top themselves, well that's their business. If people want to smoke that's also their business. Not only are smokers net contributors to the treasury, even when their healthcare is factored in, but they die earlier leaving more money for whinging non-smokers to live on in their righteous old ages

Helping someone is though..

Quite. And so should Euthanasia be legal too.

There was a little spot in The Sun (Hey, I'm not at Uni so The Times is full price) the other day that said 1% of men stick to speed limits and 3% of women. If breaking the limit is that widespread then surely it should not be such a draconian punishment.

If breaking the limit is that widespread then clearly the limits are too low. I'm struggling to think of another law that almost 100% of people fall foul of on a regular basis.

Seem to recall that that did the trick in the US

{edited to add}: But only because there's no requirement for lane discipline - rolling road-block, anyone?

{edited again to add}: Mind you, there's precious little lane discipline in this country either!

Yup this shite sounds familiar

I had a good old rant about it here:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=23&h=0&t=22838

It still hacks me off. This is propaganda pure and simple. Its not information or advice. Its just pure brainwashing.

Makes my blood boil.

I'll just have to go out and kill a few more Bollards....

I'm sure I read somewhere a couple of years ago that over 550 people a year are killed in the UK falling off ladders... can we ban those too please?

Oh, and Kettles, cos about 120 people a year get electrocuted by those apparently...

Perhaps since the Gov't is so hell bent on saving lives at any cost, we shouldn't worry about the thousands killed in Indonesia using weapons New Labya has allowed to be sold the them...
