HMRC web sire registration
Discussion
What a pain! I had to register for Corporation tax, VAT, PAYE, all in seperate areas. They all want to send me an activation code, by snail mail.
Log ins are some bizarre arangemnet of letters and numbers which you don't seem to be able to change and they want information I filed months or even years ago (like my VAT registration date, last box 5 figure! and corporation tax reference).
No wonder my P35s and P14 were bounced last year: if I strugggle to log in what chance have I got of understanding the PAYE forms?
They don't make it easy do they?
Oh, and they owe me the £250 for returning online in 2004/5 which I have to yet to deduct from what I owe them, which if I am anything to do with it will be when hell freezes over. Nightmare to get them to give it in a cheque.
E-Government???????????????????????????????????????????

Most of the £250 amounts that HMRC owe regarding on -ine PAYE registration HAVE NOT YET BEEN PAID. They assumed most PATE registrations would be in respect of businesses who normally pay over PAYE and all they had to do was deduct the £250 from the relevant monthly PAYE amount due. However, they totally underestimated the numebr of PAYE registered businesses which actually don't pay over PAYE. Those businesses should get a full cash refund of £250 from the Revenue.
This situation is turning into yet another serious embarrassment for HMRC - and now they will have another tax year to deal with in a few weeks time.

The employer's annual PAYE returns (P35/P14s/P60 etc )
Larger employers are now forced to file on-line anyway so they do not receive this "bribe".
Smaller employers (for the moment) have the choice of submitting manually or electonically. To entice smaller employers to file electronically, the Revenue will refund you £250.
They did this, in the main, by allowing employers to reduce their final PAYE payment for the tax year by £250.
For employers who actually had a "Nil" amount due at the end of the tax year (not that unusual, actually), the Revenue should have issued a payment for £250 to the business. So, far, even though it is now almost one year since the 2004/05 annual PAYE returns were submitted, most business which were due the £250 cheque have not yet received it. Soon, the Revenue will have to deal with the 2005/06 Annual Returns.
