Anyone remember when touring cars were worth watching? RS500s spewing flames, giant killing M3s etc etc. The current format isn't much of a spectacle is it?

Yep, I'm not as interested in the BTCC now as I was when they had the Super Tourers. Its just losta lot of appeal for me and cant really get into it anymore.

Personally I think it's great - needs more cars and hopefully the switch to Super 2000 regs only next year will do the trick.

The cars aren't as spectacular but they're still better than most racing saloons. The real value is the quality of the racing plus it doesn't cost the earth to watch a lot of the races live.

Delighted for Mike Jordan in race 3 this weekend but generally the driving strandards in BTCC now are dire - really very poor indeed.

Mike Jordan drove a good race the BTCC through now is far less entertaining than Britcars.

I still enjoy going to the meets, although I must admit the cars seem to be a lot slower than they once where.

Anyone notice the grille on Collard's MG? It looked as though it had a Rover one fitted - they must be running low on parts. Best not turn up to a BTCC race in a Rover or MG for the forseeable future

The depth of quality this year is a lot poorer than any season I can remember for a long time, I can only see 3 drivers who you would call consistent winners (Neal, Plato and Thompson) and only 2 of those are doing the full season. The quality of driving also seems to have deteriorated, touring car racing will always have some contact, but this year a lot of it seems quite cynical.

Oh come on! I'm no BTCC fan, but in terms of watchable racing BTCC is a tad better than Britcar. I'm not criticising Britcar, but they offer competitors and spectators entirely different things.

Many, many congratulations to Mike and Eurotech: a brilliant result in only their 6th BTCC race. He showed terrific pace in race 2 at Brands and this backs up that promise. He didn't hold off the pack for the race either, he led from the front and wasn't caught - even when Turkington had clean air he couldn't catch Mike. I'm so pleased for them.

As a side note, I think it also shows how good GT teams really are.

BTCC has a lot to answer for with regard to the decline in driving standards in lower series. They see the top guys getting away with it (Mr Gow has always been lenient as it makes good TV), and then try the same in tehir own races. Someone's going to be killed as a result of it soon.

Same here. Great result for Mike. Racing otherwise was quite boring really!

Britcar is much better than BTCC for a number of reasons

Firstly the races last longer up to 24 Hours

Then you have a mixture of cars all racing a different speeds at the same time from the mighty 935 Porsche to Ferrari 360's, Ford Falcons, BMW, Marcos Mantisis and even a Renault Clio.

Strange, a year ago you had all of that wrapped up in a neat promoted package called the British GT Championship... rather than the free for all that seems to be Britcar.

GT racing is better than both due to the diverse drivers and cars making up the grid and the different lengths of the racing.
But this is just personal opinion, of course.

Absolutely, it's difficult to compare the disciplines. Last year I was at Brands for a Britcar race and looked forward to the start of the Production S1 race, lots of saloons and hatches, only to hear that it was going to last 2 hours...needless to say I picked up my copy of Autosport and read a few articles to pass the time...but that's just me and having said that I quite happily watch F1 races from start to finish. Plus one of the best races I've seen was the Britcar night race at Brands last year but then again I was with Lotus on Track supporting Scuffham and Randy in the Team Scandal Prosport that fought back to win - it always helps to have a human angle.

It rather lost its appeal for me when the structure got changed and the old class based system was removed. I rather liked it that someone trolling around at the back in a 1400cc Astra or whtever could win the championship without having a nutter RS500 - although the RS500s were fun to watch, as were Weaver and Sytner in the BMWs punting each other off every weekend. Almost all motorsport run under the MSA is class based (in my discipline I run in modprod/modsports under 1400cc for example), so we all understand it.

I persevered for a few years but gave up in the end. Under the 2000cc regulations the Audis stomping on everyone around knockhill were fun, but what happened to them? Was 4wd banned / weight penatied out of viability? Same for RWD since we no longer see BMWs? I find watching a bunch of fwd cars racing yawn inducing
