Thats ridiculous.

They can't prevent you accessing your street.

I'd call the police - they are obstructing a public highway.

They should have made a temporary traffic regulation order. No order = no road closures,

Ther police have powers to close a road in an emergency without an order (for example if a building is about to fall down_ but otherwise - you need an order.

Order must be publicised in local newspaper. Notices should be erected in advance on affected streets. If you can prove those two things didn't happen, then order is invalid and can be turned over in court - in se veral weeks time. Doesn't help you today though.

No obligation to leaflet residents etc.

Had this in Garforth a couple of months back. No signs indicating the road was to be closed so proceeded to park in usual Car Park. Noticed the roundabouts etc but off street so thought nothing of it. Got back after Daughters Tap class to find PCSO's stopping anybody moving cars as the road was closed! Pointed out that there had been no notices or Security staff telling you it was to be closed. After about a dozen people complained they let us out. A case of keeping calm but being very firm about the circumstances. It Turned out the Security staff should have been in place an hour before we even turned up to stop traffic parking but had not done so. The company concerned seemingley have a reputation for doing this.
