Holy Crap!

I nearly had a heart attack when I read this thread:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=27099

Congestion charging is going ahead despite the overwhelming majority of the general public objecting to it. On top of this, the police are going to be allowed to confine protesters to cordoned off areas and even more scary, forcibly remove poeple from their cars and bang them up for protesting in the streets. THERE'S NO F*CKING DEMOCRACY LEFT IN ENGLAND, IT'S BEEN ERODED BIT BY BIT BY THE LIKES OF BLAIR AND LIVINGSTONE!!! I am so glad I got out when I did, but it sickens my sh1te to see my home country turning into and Orwellian nightmare !

The political system is so riddled with beurocracy it doesn't work anymore and all the opposition parties are as useful as a condom machine in the vatican. Much like a slightly overtasked PC, it needs to be shut down, upgraded and restarted. Democracy won't work because there is none.

GUY FAWKES HAD THE RIGHT IDEA !

Congestion Charging is going ahead because the residents in London voted for it. Who says the majority are opposed to it?

Blair and Livingstone are both democratically elected leaders and the police will be protecting the policies they were voted in on.

If you don't agree with them fine, but democracy does not mean getting YOUR way then trying to bring the country to a standstill if you don't.

Besides, I don't think England (or the US for that matter) ever claimed to be actual democracies. I believe they were set up as democratic republics.

In other words, the public don't get to vote on everything. What they get to vote on is who is going to run the country and then it is up to those people to do what they think is in the country's best interests with the knowledge that they will have to periodically answer to the electorate.

Pure democracy is a dangerous thing anyway.

No we didnt.

The misguided fools voted for Livingstone, which in itself was in no way an invitation to fcuk up the capitals roads. He has steam rollered this in and when it fails he, we and the entire nation are going to be the laughing stock of the world.

Don't confuse 'pure democracy' with Ochlocracy - they aren't the same..

The UK is a parliamentary democracy, whilst the US is indeed a democratic republic.

I don't think you can have pure democracy in practice since it always has to be integrated with other instruments of state.

The majority of a minority of people voted for livingstones quack ideas, the rest did not, so livingstone does not have the support of the majority of londoners, just a majority of those who bothered to vote for him, very big difference.
