Twitch, as far as i am aware the vascar stops operating every 7 days until it is recalibrated. It seems also to be normal practice to check the unit at the start of each shift. There are different models of the vascar (old and new) so it would be hard to say for sure if it was calibrated. My guess is you will struggle to pull of claiming the device wasnt calibrated (even if it wasnt). If you know you were speeding then really you should take the points. However I recently was involved being prosecuted by a vascar check and was sure it was invalid. The vascar system is not a means on measuring your speed just a representation of the officers opinion of your speed. Done correctly it can be very accurate (and all cops are trained to a high accuracy level). But it is also open to abuse... Good luck.

Thanks Mary. I know it's a bit of a long shot, but with major pointage on the horizon and or a ban it is/was worth a thought. On another note - points or ban? Are you given the option when you're found guilty and Mr Magistrate dishes out the punishment? I luckily managed to renew my insurance a few months back but I'm thinking of next year and the lesser of the two evils, if given the choice. Nik PS Pryce Woodrow - worth the 350 beer tokens?
