The garage selling this say that it comes with their own warranty. They say that it is as good as the Porsche warranty and all items are covered.
The warranty is also honoured by all Porsche centres.
Advice is welcomed.
Kind regards
Ash.

What's the max claim per item & per year? These engines are 30k which makes an official porsche warranty a compelling proposition despite the fact the official warranty doesn't exactly cover everything you'd hope. I still think that cars a bit pricey, and I'd want it to have an official warranty.

Tell them not to bother warrantying it, knock a grand off the price and get an OPC warranty. Why have the worry of a non bona fide warranty?
Most dealers will throw in their own warranty with the car...
From my experience, these are all limited to about 5k... which isnt a lot when your talking about Porsches (and I imagine the GT2 doubles all that)..
So either you get an unlmitied warranty, in writing, or as someone said, you get some cash knocked off and get an OCP warranty.

Nick Whale owns Solihull OPC (just round the M42).
I bought my 996 from them and had the same issue. They were happy to knock their warranty off the price (-£500 IIRC), get a service done at OPC (£300, used as pre purchase inspection) and then put Porsche warranty on (£750).
The Porsche roadside assist has been very useful and the peace of mind is worth more than the extra cost of getting Official Porsche Warrantys/Service etc.
I'm sure that they are very confident that their warranty is as good as the OPC but I hidn't want the hassle of finding out either way.
Good luck - the GT2 is an awesome motor BTW!

I have a non-Porsche warranty where the maximum claim limit is the price I paid for the car - if the claim is for more than this then you have a constructive total loss. All insurance warranties are contracts that are governed by the their terms and conditions, and Porsche have plenty of exclusions in theirs as lurkers here will know.
When buying insurance ALWAYS read the policy wording (and that goes for Porsche as well) so you know what you are getting. I am sure the vendor of the car will fax you a copy for the car you are interested in.

if you believe what you read on here and other Porsche web-sites you will have an RMS laek.
really, like all of them ? even the GT2 ?
wow im shocked.. .. .. .. no one has ever mentioned this to me so far . . . . . . (sorry keyboard is broken, keeps typing full stops)
id do my homework, 5% of 996's are rumoured to have RMS faults according to porsche club GB and ive not heard of anyone saying thier GT2 has RMS (different engine and gearbox u see) and only 2 GT3 owners who have mentioned it (both fixed free under warranty)
anyways back O/T youd get that for 60k with a OPC warranty, just tell them you will buy it for 60k if they pay for OPC warranty, if they agree, go with them and if it passes all clear tell em your having it and slap a OPC warranty on it (dont think anyone can sell a used porsche with 12 months OPC warranty other than main dealers so it would have to be bought by you in your name)

By far the most important thing to check with any warranty is if it excludes failures caused by "wear and tear".
If it does (as most do) then that over-rides any specific failure listed and negates it.
In our experience - the warranty company send an assessor who simply says - "well it was all right for "x" years or "y" miles and now it has failed - so what else can be the cause except wear and tear - so we are not covering it".
Apart from trying to prove a manufacturing or design defect (which would cost too much and take too long) it is difficult to argue against that logic. Add to that a limit on cost etc and most warranty options are poor value.
The Porsche warranty is quite expensive but seems a good option for newer cars and we do not exclude wear and tear on our own Lifetime Maintenance Plan - basically if it needs fixing we cover it (with very few exceptions).
