Don't respond.

I think the scam is that a cheque turns up for more than that amount, asking you to send the difference back. The cheque they send clears, but is stolen so is later recovered. Or something.

dear mr <ICSD>,

i hope this letter finds you well. i will buy you <car> for <price> that you ask. when you confirm the excellent condition. my shipping agent sends you cheque for $1m, when your bank, who doesnt give a about you, clears the cheque, you send me briefcase full of difference in cash, or via any other untraceble method of your choice. may god bless you and you family. respond immediately.

PS my brother recently inherited $25m but due to some vague political reason we cant get it out the country, if you give us full access to your bank account to help us move it, you recieve $5m. blessings to you.

These scumbags need a taste of their own medicine. Try something like this:

I've had several of these types of responses in the past, and I've tried to call their bluff by going along with them - they soon give up when you start asking questions back.

Just sent this - tee hee!

"Hi Peter

The Car's in great condition with full history and got the all clear from HPI when I bought it. All the pictures I have are in the advert.

I'm afraid that I would only be able to accept cash as there have recently been a spate of fraudulant transactions using secure cheques/ bankers drafts. Unfortunately the scum that perpetrate those kinds of crime have made selling a car very difficult and one has to be incredibly careful nowadays.

Please let me know if that's acceptable to you."
