Are They Taking The Biscuit (Re: Tracking System) ?
Discussion
I have now finally gone and bought myself a 996 Cab and am getting delivery tomorrow
Insurance insisted on Tracking System and so I found the RacTrackstar Plus for a great price of £333 to include VAT and fitting, but not subscription.
However, after giving my vehicle details and agreeing to purchase the system, the firm phoned back, ten minutes after I had booked it in, and said that because the vehicle was a 911, it takes the engineer about an hour longer to fit the system and therefore they would have to charge an extra £20 !! Whilst £20.00 won't kill me, I am not sure about the principle of this, and would like to ask if anyone has experienced the same thing when having a tracking system installed. (They said that because the 911 has little room to install the system they have to place it under the back shelf, which takes longer than any other place). I was always led to understand that the system can be placed in one of several positions inside the car.
I hope this is not the shape of things to come, ie. "oh that geezers got a 911, let's up the price etc etc ..."

Never heard that, and had a few fitted. Have you checked (really checked) whether the car already has a tracker fitted? Twice I've had dealers tell me a car didn't have a tracker, and when I phoned around, I found that it had. They wanted to charge me hundreds for something it already had.
If you think about it, if you need a tracker for your insurance, didn't the previous owner? It's not definite, but definitely worth checking.

SO REMIND ME AGAIN HOW YOU CAN FIND OUT IF YOU CAR IS FITTED WITH A TRACKER. EACH TIME I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ROUND FOR INSURANCE MANY HAVE ASKED FOR TRACKER AND I HAVE NO RECORD OF ONE BEING FITTED, BUT ITS GETTING HARDER TO FING A DECENT PRICE WITH OUT ONE.
I phoned Tracker UK. Give me 10 mins & I'll find it for you
No sorry. I don't have the number with me & I cant find it on the net.

The whole idea of the device being located in one of a number of places is for security - so that a thief can't just find it and rip it out in a couple of minutes. I would SERIOUSLY challenge them on the supposition that it has to be placed under the rear shelf on all 911s...

i'd also get them to put it somewhere else deliberately, as if they're saying that what's the betting the crims know it too?!?
