Was thinking about having this done next summer ('02 986) so that I can get some more time in the car with Jnr....

I see that you can buy a 'de-activation' bar from various sources and presumably fit it yourseld - but I understand that it's a dealer job to 'activate it' (presumably via the PST2 / PIWIS).

Once fitted, how does it work?

Do you need a special Porsche child seat? (hopefully not!)

Is the airbag re-activated if you disconnect the de-activation bar? And dis-activated, the next time you refit the de-activation bar etc... Or is it always going to be a dealer visit to switch from one mode to the next?

Cheers!

Not sure about the bar fitting, think they about £200 at OPC, but you def need a Porsche seat. Type depending on the size of junior. They have a seatbelt type fitting thing that slots in the bar when seat in place, wgich deactivates airbag. When you remove this bags work again for passengers. You can find them on ebay sometimes but I got out bid twice. So ended up forking £450+ at OPC for mine, hopeing to get decent price back when it goes on ebay when my junior is bigger.. Do a search, few p[ost on the subject..

Incredible! So you are saying that you have to plug something from the Porsche seat into the the de-activation bar to actually switch off the airbag!

It's sounding like it would be cheaper to upgrade to a 987!. Crafty bugg€r$!

Perhaps this could be hacked so that a plug (similar to that found inthe Porsche seat) could be plugged into the socket on the de-activation bar.

I will do a search and try and find out more. I will assume that physically remove the passenger airbag altogether is probably an insurance no-no and it will not be as simple as temporarily pulling a fuse...

Cheers!

I think some have made a copy of the porsche belt clip to slot into the bar, then you can use any seat. But how would you feel it it failed and wrecked your kid in an accident...

Search on boxa.net as well..

good luck with it. My daughter loves the car and the seat / bar has made life so much easier..
